I am looking to do some Colonial gaming in the Sudan, and want to know if I need Black Powder, or can I just use the rules I have. Is BP different enough to warrant purchasing?

Thank you

BP is quite different from HC. I can't comment on P&S as I do not have a copy. If you are going to do Colonial then you really need BP.

I play all three, and all are different enough. Pike and shotte is closer for the basic rules, but the move distances in BP are much longer.

as the nature of all the sets are quite flexible, you could probably get by without it, but if your a fan of the series, it is different enough.

To me BP is more stripped back than HC. There are some differences, and as said above you could get away with just HC, but BP is a very nice book, and I think worth getting for the differences in the rules.

I would definitely recommend that you invest in black powder im doing anglo zulu war at the moment and think its great

Take care

I have both HC and BP but out local group prefers HC's morale mechanism so we modify HC to play horse and musket rather than using BP.

So I would say no, you don't really need BP… but obviously others will disagree.

I bought my BP copy just before the 1/2 price sale and I still like it. grin Like Womble67, we are enjoying playing through the Zulu campaign book at the moment.

I like BP the best of all three. That being said I think you could get by using Pike and Shotte. The two rulesets are very similar.

Just buy it. You know you want it. If nothing else, there are several scenarios for various periods of this sort of warfare.
