Watch out, barbarians!

Great looking artillery

On a modelling note I have always wondered if Roman artillery crew would really wear armour – I guess if this was for a battle in the field, but for something like a siege it seems to me that they would shed their armour quick

I have read that there were punishments – and harsh ones at that – for those constructing defence works who shed even their helmet so I'm guessing that they might well be instructed to wear the kit (certainly while the Centurion was looking, anyway…)

The catapult is, William. The Ballista is from a Zvezda siege kit.

Mateus, another question if you don't mind, what size bases did you use for the artillery and where the heck do you get the Zvezda artillery from, I've looked but it's as rare as rockin horse droppings!

Lovely painting! The Zvedas are great, they work with 28mm, too. They came with a siege set with mantlets and mangonels. I have a couple:

William, those Siege Kits from Zvezda come up on ebay every now and then. You must keep an eye out.

The base sizes I use vary according to the weapon. For scorpios, I use the same size as cavalry (5cm x 5cm). The medium artillery, such as those shown here are based on 10cm x 8cm.
