I originally posted this on the Dark Ages board, and completely missed a crosspost to the Hail Caesar Board. Duh! So, I thought I would give this one more shot. My friends and I are building some Dark Age armies (Saxons, Vikings, Normans, and Welsh) and have played a couple of test games with the Hail Caesar rules. Does anyone have any rule modifications or house rules they would like to share with us to make the game feel more period appropriate? Thanks, Gert Link to the original post: TMP link |

We have done a few multiplayer games of that period based around the 3 big battles of 1066 in England (I think we did Hastings 3 or 4 times, still haven't got it right). We didn't have many adaptions, the only one I recall was a -1 to command rolls if you weren't ordering all of your units together as a battle. This encouraged keeping the hordes together and moving in blocks. I think we also introduced the 'only one Follow Me for the game' rule (to make it the glorious, battle-saving charge it is supposed to be) and commanders have to stay attached to the unit they are with, or attach to one when within 12" of the enemy. I'm a bit hazy to be honest as we haven't played for a year or two and we've similar slight variations for WOTR & now Greco Persian wrestling. |

Iceax -- Thanks for the suggestions. I can discuss them with the other guys and give them a try. Definitely like the 'only one Follow Me' rule. |
