Hi all,

Just a quick message about rally activations. I understand that you need to activate to make a rally attempt. Are the modifiers on the activation itself or on the rally attempt?

If they are on the activation are there any modifiers on the rally attempt role itself. Is a 2 the base number for passing the rally attempt?

Hi Jeff,

The modifiers are on the save, rather than on the activation.

The unit needs to activate (perhaps on a 2+, if the unit's first activation) and then make a modified save. The save is usually a 6+, 7+ or 8+ (depending on the unit) modified positively by the presence of a general, and negatively by the presence of enemy units that can charge the rallying unit.

Best, Simon

Ahhh…so the rally attempt is a modified save card. I have been playing that all wrong. I think we started to play the rally activation correctly but the value that was needed to remove the disorder has been calculated incorrectly by myself. I assume this is modeling that the more armored/trained guys have a lower save value and thus are easier to rally back?

Running a Camillan Roman v. Pyrrhic army scenario tonight. Looking at the army lists it seems the the Epirot army does not have detached leaders and that the Camillan army has no line exchange rules (still small units/Legionaries).

Hi Jeff,

Yes that's it. In general the better armoured/trained guys save better and therefore rally better, too. It's less useful to try to rally warrior types.

Camillan- interesting. I rewrote the Polybian list with a line exchange mechanism- this should also apply to the Cammillan list. When I get a chance I'll add it to the Camillans- it might be a week or so, though, as I'm working on the ECW rules this week. Look at the Polybian list and you might be able to anticipate how it will work.

Epirot leaders- I tend to have them attached a la Macedonian heroic leadership styles, where the general charged at the front. They are cheaper that way, too!
