I saw a contemporary PigWars variant with drug lords, anti-drug forces, banana republic forces, etc. Like TSATF, the basic rules are pretty good, and could probably be adapted to a number of periods.

I played a Pig Wars game with Copplestone Fantasy Warriors Barbarians versus Doctor Who Sea Devils (physically weaker and with less powerful weapons than in the show, to give a fair fight). So, yes, it could probably be done, with a lot of statline mods and house rules.
