At work, no access to my copy of Glutter of Ravens, and would like to place an order for figures today, so I need a bit of help (and yes, I have searched online, not finding much out there). Can anyone post the army lists for the Early Saxons and Romano-Brits? And, if you have time, the Scots-Irish as well? Placing a special order and want to have exact figure counts. Thanks in advance!!! |

Dan Mersey is publishing a new set – Dux Bellorum. Check boardgamegeek.com for more information. |

T – Thanks you so VERY much! A new set? Why? Glutter of Ravens seems to be a fairly complete and worthy set of rules. I can't check that site from work (damn restricted access) so not sure of what boardgamegeek has to say. Again, thanks for the lists! |

Less record keeping has been mentioned – only one stat per unit to keep track of. |

from Dan Mersey on boardgamegeek: "Dux Bellorum is the name for the on/off new game based broadly on Glutter of Ravens. It's now definitely 'on' since Osprey approached me to write a new Arthurian game. Armies are formed of a similar number of units to GoR (so old armies can be used), and units are still rated for attack/defence/strength, although now only the strength value changes duing the game. There are still a limited number of troop types (Companions, Warriors, Shieldwall, Riders, Skirmishers), and leadership still plays a big part in the rules – players basically allocate leadership 'modifiers' to units of their choice each turn. I think this represents Dark Ages battles nicely. I've cut out recordkeeping beyond the basics (strength is now tracked using mini dice or counters placed with units), and I've made the game more scaleable in terms of number of figures/size of bases. Dux Bellorum is a pretty different game to the original GoR, but I'm hoping I've kept the feel of the original. It's nearly 13 years since GoR was published and I've learned a lot about developing games in that time, so hopefully the new rules combined with Osprey's packaging will make this a nice game to own. It's not due for publication until 2012, but that gives me time to ensure the rules play how I want them to without rushing things." |

Why would they change GoR? It's only been out for thirteen years! Actually, I just got my copy last week, so it is new to me. Having Osrpey publish Dux Bellorum could be good or bad. I like Force on Force, but I do not like the typos and missing charts/info. Osprey needs to make certain the proofing is as bit more thorough. Again, thanks!!! |

Darryl, If you are gaming in 15mm, I can recommend Splintered Light miniatures Arthurian range. These are the last figures I bought before becomming unemployed. If you are interested in the naval side of rellion and post roman britain, the Hotz Roman Seas paper models (6mm) are very well done. I observed a game at Historicon a few years back and the ships, buildings were wonderful. Some links to sites I use: romanbritain.freeserve.co.uk Guy de la Bedoyere's site with general history roman-britain.org Has themed maps that you can layer link 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map of Roman Britain from yahoo groups: AfterRome Has Guy Halsall's articles on Age of Arthur from Wargames Illustrated arthurwarlist Mostly WAB stuff but has scenarios and campaign info Finally, Simon MacDowall's site. legio-wargames.com Has rules for period, not exclusively britain. Have fun, Terry |

Hey Terry, Those indeed are the figures I am ordering. Just had to get an idea of what figures I truly needed, buying individual packs would give me far too many extras, and a DBA pack would be a good start, but I would prefer to have something specific for GoR, and David at SLM is willing to help! I'll have to check those links later, many of them are blocked at work. I have tried to search for the arthurwarlist group, but with no luck, both on Google and on Yahoo Groups. I did find the Halsall articles on a blog, so have access to those. Oh, and I can get to the map site
very cool! I have a copy of Simon's Wargaming in History that covers the Goths and Huns, it has a set of rules (Comitatus) that seems to have some elements that were later used in GoR. And good luck on the job front! Darryl |
