Phil Sabin includes a lot of ancient battle scenarios in his work Lost Battles. Has anyone played any of the Lost Battles scenarios using other rulesets? If so, what ruleset did you use and how did it play? Thanks! |

I've certainly played the same battles using other rules, not used the LB scenarios as a basis for them. The Society of Ancients 'Battle Days' feature one battle played with lots of different rules inclduing Strategos/LB. IIRC Gaugamela was one, and Caesers Xth fighting off a load of Gauls (The Sambre??) another. |

Using Phils excellent book for reference, I've used big battle DBA for Cynoscephalae and Zama, warmaster ancients for Cynoscephalae and Magnesia. The other week we used Hail Caesar for Magnesia. Translating to DBA is easy as Phil Barker says what troop numbers his bases represent. It's a bit more tricky for other unit based rule sets. I've been pleased with all my games. Of course I would have liked to use Phils rules but I find them a bit difficult. Should you want my orbats contact me off list. |
