Re: these rules, are units made up of multiple bases or is a single base a unit?

Cheers.

I use Baccus 6mm figures based for DBA:

1 base for Veteran units
2 bases for Average units
4 bases for Levy units

Basing is actually irrelevant in Lost Battles. Any scheme can be used – just use what suits your own concept of what the units represent.

Margard probably has the units' footprint about right – but that would vary with what 'real' troop types the bases represent.

The Lost Battles book gives a rough guide to what a "unit" represents. As the game is played on a board divided into a notional grid the actual make up of units is irrelevant as long as you can tell what's what.

I have a very tiny travel set done in 2mm, based 20x10 mm. With each base labeled as to troop type, quality etc. it works fine, as do multiple DBA bases in 15mm, etc…

Basing is irrelevant, but I find it easier to use groups of bases to represent unit quality (1 for veteran, 2 for average and 4 for levy) as quality determines the number of operational elements for combat purposes.

My stuff is all on 25mm DBx bases.

I believe the author does something similar to what Martin does in 6mm. VHI 2 strips (2 ranks). AHI 4 strips (2 ranks). LHI 8 strips (4 ranks).

I'd ask Phil directly on the LB group. There have been some pictures of his games. They do look fantastic.
