I just tried out using W&C using my 15mm Armies of Roman Republicans vs. Greeks as City States Army, this was done at about the 2,000 point level per/side.

You can view a slideshow of the miniatures used and some of the battle here;

The Greeks won the Strategic Advantage in the opening round and proceeded to pass the first turn to the Roman player wanting to see there advances, since they where quite far off and would not get into any real danger first off. Within the second and third turns is where the Romans had the Strategic Advantage and presses the attacks with there Roman and Italian Cavalry units along with the Velites, attack at long and then short range with their Javelins against the Greek advancing Peltasts & Light Cavalry who decided to Skirmish.

Behind them the Two Roman Legions, each with Maniples consisting of Roman Hastati, Princepes & Triarii each began to maneuver and fan out for attacks against the steadfast Greek Hoplite lines consisting of a single Veteran unit, two Trained Hoplite units all taking up the front line, then in reserve in the center rear was a unit of Citizen Hoplites with an attached Lokhagos (commander) to fill in just in case things went bad for the boys in front.

On the 6th turn the Roman Italian along with the Velites all routed, leaving the Roman Cavalry suffering 50% casualties against the onslaught of javelin attacks from Peltasts & Light Cavalry but the Greek Light cavalry broke and fled the field soon after along with two peltast units as the legion maniples approached and on turn 7 the last peltast was destroyed. This led to an advance into contact of epic proportions between the Green Phalanx and the Roman Legions (which charged into contact with 2 Hastati and 1 Princepes formation on turn 8, as the clash continued, the two Hastati units where suffering severe casualties, until switched out with the rear supporting Triarii units, which on turn 9 crushed the center line and right flank of the Greeks, turning the battle for the Romans and routing the Hoplites including the Citizens, leaving only the Veteran Hoplites to deal with the Princepes. At this point we decided to call the game a total Republican Roman Victory and a sad day for Democracies everywhere.

Final Thoughts: We thought it was very Warhammer Like, thats not to say its bad just allot of dice rolling going on. 2) And we wouldn't try a 2,000 point battle using 25mm+ size, just no room for it but it would look cool……All in all, we gave it 4 spears out of 5 for looks, but 3 spear out of 5 for no QRC in it, we kept having to thumb through looking up things, like movement, special rules, etc, etc. it needs one badly, and a 4 spears for game play, it was fun, so a total overall of 3.6 spears out of 5.

Oh forgot to mention BTW, we used Roman Replica coins as Strategic Intervention Points and a Large Coin for who had Strategic Advantage. For damage, red casualty caps.

We are starting to play W&C here in the nashville, TN area.
Any thoughts on how the rules work?

Well I just found a QRC online, which should speed things up a bit, so we won't have to flip through the book so much next time for obscure rules and charts. As far as the rules, they are not bad overall we had fun, it was just the amount of little rules to remember like Drilled, Phalanx, terrain effects, move rates for units, and some of the combat mods. for Push & Moves, remembering morale test dice for units, etc…lots to remember and flip through to look up, I'm sure it gets better as we play more. I remember back starting to play DBM it was no cakewalk either, and it got better after many games.

I think I will hold off remounting my skirmishers until I'm for sure though that this is the game we want to have as a go to for Ancients and see what they release in the future here.
