Hi everyone. DBA player here. How does MA compare to DBA? How do the army lists work in MA? New to this game, and looking for something 'smallish', like DBA. |

Can't comment on the comparison. But you might want to look at Basic Impetus. It's free too :-) |

i have seen a lot of DBA and Mighty Armies played at conventions in the South. The mounting of bases is slightly different so armies are not really interchangable. The is a historical adn a fantasy version of MA. Like DBA and their big battles you can play MA with larger forces as well. |

Hi, sorry to disagree with Rudy. But we use DBX mounting and play both MA and MA Fantasy. MA has little or no fiddly positioning rules as DBA does. You also fight entire battles with one roll in MA rather than by stand in DBA. My preference is MA although it is less popular for now. Thanks, John |

MA doesn't have a basing standard that you have to go by as long as you use the same basing for both sides. Although I do really like their 50x25 and 50x50 basing and have decided to use it for Rally Round the King as well. MA has some similarities with DBA but it's more streamlined with combat taking a lot less time. It's a good game and very affordable $9 USD for pdf and $12 USD for in print! Rebel Minis rules! |

The above shouldn't be construed as a complete write off of DBA though, it's still a great game and I can't wait to check out the new version. |

OR we could compare M.A. with H.o.t.T
. |

I disliked the group fighting rule in MA and especially the d6 losses one could suffer from it. It seems like it forced me to have one large main battle group rather than a battle line. I did like shooting in MA over DBx. |

I think the group fighting concept is great. However, I also think it needs some tweaking to make it as effective as it could be. I think Hott is a bland competitor to MA Fantasy. Hott has a large following and does have extremely balanced army lists. however, that comes at a price. Everything is the same. Only the make up of the armies allows for any real difference. But you also suffer the micro positioning ailment that DBA also suffers from. Again, if a few things can be tweaked with MA Fantasy you'll have a rule set that really is exceptional! Plus you're getting new army books with MA fantasy that provide new fun things to add to the game. Thanks, John |

I am with John. I really like MA, at least the ancients version. I would like to see some better group rules and I lie awake at night trying to think of some. But when playing it, the group combat rules seem just fine and don't need fixing. |

Well
got MA: A last night! I have been looking for a while nor for a game that plays like DBA (better even), and am quite happy with this find. I already through together a couple army lists for Feudal English n French to try out tomorrow. SO far I have no complaints. Next question pops into my mind
where can I find some decent army lists? |
Shaun Travers | 27 Oct 2012 8:42 p.m. PST |
monger, As you may have guessed by now, there are no reals sources of army lists for MA:A outside of the rule book themselves. And they are OK lists, but no great. |
Rebel Minis | 06 Nov 2012 9:37 a.m. PST |
We actually have some lists being developed by some players.. hopefully soon. RebelMike |

I know lots of players like to make their own lists, and hey
in a way that's a strong point of the rules. But some official lists would be awesome for setting up any kind of tourney or with players outside the club. |

I believe he may mean those lists made by players will be Official. The Dark Elf booklet was made this way. Thanks, John |
