I read on a thread somewhere that there was a medieval Tactica rules supplement released some time ago.

Can anyone tell me what was included in it? How much does/did it cost? Are copies still available?

Thanks,

Rob

It actually is a dedicated Medieval version of the rules, not a supplement. I think it cost $25 or $30, but that was 10 years ago. I have no idea whether or not it is still available.

Production wise its very nice, and similar to regular Tactica with loads of inspiring photos of nicely painted miniatures. In addition to basic battle rules, there are army lists for all the most important armies, siege rules (that could be used for skirmishes as well) and an early Italian wars campaign, complete with army lists, map, and rules for mercenaries including John Hawkwood's English White Company.

The rules are very similar to Tactica, but with a number of changes to accomodate the period.

On Military Matters has it listed in the Wargaming Rules section of their web-site.

I think it is the book I have, since mine is for the medieval period, and has the siege rules in it.

I thought there was a later release of more info, since I believe there was a reference to such in the Medieval Tactica rules book, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the replies though.

You can inquire on the Tactica yahoo group. Arty Conliffe is active on that list:

Now tha I think about it, there was a supplement for ancients Tactica, it was only army lists. I have it also, I think it cost $20. Its thinner than the two rule books. It covered several small periods or groups of armies, including Saxons, Normans, and Vikings. Three different periods of Samurai. Mongols. Some Chinese and Korens I think. I think there were a couple other easter/horse nomad types. May have been Hungarians as well. I wish I could check, but my copy is in storage in another state! Despite the time periods covered, I am pretty sure it was intended as a supplement for regular Tactica, not for the medieval version. (Though it would probably be compatible either way.) It had a limited number of full page color photos, I think 4, including a really cool one of Dixon Samurai that led me into buying an army that took me 6 years to finish!

First came Tactica

First came Tactica, then came the Tactica supplement that had add'l. army lists, then came Medieval Tactica (a stand alone version for medieval battles and a siege skirmish battles supplement).

Tactica Medieval was (IMO) a better game than Tactica.

It is worth buying for the seige rules alone. In addition, it has a stand-alone campaign system in it.

Yeah...isn't the campaign Italian City States? Great set of rules, but hard to get players because it requires so many miniatures. Especially difficult if your gaming buddies only have DBA armies.

I used the campaign rules as the basis for a DBA campaign. We tweaked the lists a little, but basically substituted each Tactica unit with a single DBA element.
