Is anyone playing "Horse Foot and Guns" of Phil Barker?

And if so, what do you think of it?

I don't have experience with the other "De Bellis" games, so it took a few games to learn the rules, but it appear to be quite "fast paced" if a bit abstract.

Any comments more than welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I tried it once and others in my club have played a few times. I wasn't very taken by it - far too abstract. It didn't FEEL like a big battle.

My friends and I have played it once or twice. It's very different from the other DBx games, even though the basic unit mechanisms are similar. (command pip system, opposed die rolls, outcomes based on how different die scores are). One nice thing about HFG is that there are no rosters, and no markers on the table; therefore it looks very nice and clean. Real hardcore gamers may find it too abstract or bland, though.

Did they release them yet?

It's been on the web for years now.

I find the current version far too fiddly and encumbered with lengthy paragraphs of Barkerese. When the combat modifiers start to spill over more than one page you know something has gone horribly wrong....

The original 1991 version isn't bad, although even more abstract than the current offering! Played a few games with that one.
