I am considering buying Chipco's Fantasy Rules ! and give it a try. My main concern is the basing. I already own about 800-1000 15mm fantasy figures, all based for the HOTT/DBF systems, just as all the 15mm armies around me. I know the FR ! basing is different (squares) and I wonder if my bases could be easily used for a FR ! game. Thank you for any advice Denis |

Fantasy Rules basing uses 40x40mm bases for 15mm figures. However it is flexible; many players (including myself) use figures based for DBA/M. You can use 2 DB* foot elements (one behind the other) as 1 FR element and 1 DB* mounted element as 1 FR element. The number of figures on an FR base isn't important to the game mechanics and you won't have any problems. While there are some differences, many of the FR movement rules are similar to DBA. There is a Yahoo groups (chipco-list) that the authors participate in as well. Jason |

You can also just blutack (or some similar method of removable attachments) your bases to a 40mm square base for FR! Then if you don't like the game after all, you just toss the square bases. Chipco is all about using what you've got without having to make serious modifications. |

Some of the pictures in FR! show one DBA style base on a larger square. They recommend using two bases together as Mirosav stated, but as long as they are on the right size square, it doesn't matter how many figures are on it. |

I recommend foot in two bases deep and mounted one deep. |

15mm hordes (im a 25/28mm player) is on 40mm frontage with varying back depth - its 60mm frontage for 28mm (like DBM) |

A variation of ratbone's idea of using blu-tac on bases: If you have magnetic strips on your bases , you can then have coloured magnetic paper on the "right" sized bases, and chop and change the figures onto them as required. [This is more effort than blu-tac! It seems easier to me as I happen to magnetise bases habitually anyway. It protects painted figures by keeping them steady and upright when transported in metal toolboxes, etc.] |

Thanks. I understand that the depth of the bases are important in the game. I will use metal bases, my bases being already magnetic. But 40x40mm seems too small to mount many big models (dragons, etc). Are there special basing rules for large monsters ? |
