Me and gaming buddy have both decided to get a HoTT army each…..
But we are thinking of 28mm figs based on elements that are 80mm frontage and twice the depth of their 15mm counterparts….so hordes would be on 80x60 etc…
Is the table size for 28mm on 60mm frontage 4x4 or 3x3 ft?

We will most probably be using 4x4 as this also fits in with the base sizes…any thoughts????

Does HoTT have the Art element in it or is this just DBA???

Cheers Andy

HOTT is designed 15mm figures with 40mm elements on a 24" by 24" board. Some players prefer a slightly larger board (32" by 32").
For 25/28mm figures on 60mm bases then the recommended table size is 48" by 48".
If you are going for 80mm wide bases then the minimum table size would need to be 48" by 48", but if you can stretch to 60" by 60" you may find the extra space useful!

Page 5 2nd edition rule book says '…optimum playing area is 600mm or 24" square…if using 15mm or smaller…, or 900mm or 36" square if 25mm'

Book says 60mm wide for 25-28mm figures. I use this for 1/72 and 28mm (Warhammer figures). Depends on how many you want to fit on base I suppose, can squeeze 3 ork boyz on 60x40.

Artillery in HOTT is defined as '…all projectile-throwing crew-served engines, both gunpowder and mechanical.'

I do the same for DBN. I have them mounted on 80mm wide bases of double depth, and for a 24 AP game would be fine. I often use slightly larger armies for DBN and play on a 4x6 board, which in my opinion is an ideal situation and would work really well with a 36 AP HoTT army.

I base my 28mm figs on 60mm frontages for two reasons: First, this makes my armies compatible with those belonging to other HotT players who, like me, are rebasing their old Warhammer figures or just prefer the 25/28mm size. Second, since the HotT basing conventions are suggestions, not rules, you can get away with fewer 28mm figures on a 60mm base (e.g. three figures for a blades element instead of four; or two mounted for a knights element instead of three).

Of course, if 80mm works for you and your buddy, go for it. I'm sure it looks great and will better accomodate some of the larger 28s from Games Workshop and Reaper, as well as the prepainted D&D minis.

For 60mm frontages, we use a 3 x 3 foot board. If you use 80mm frontages, you should probably take it up to 4 x 4.

For your info, we play 20/25mm armies on 60mm wide frontages, using a 36"x36" playing surface… we find the 36" square surface is just fine..

Thanks for all the replies….

We are building 15mm on 2x2 board for playing at local club..nobody there has any 25/28mm fantasy so this is going to be a one off special…cos i wanna paint 28mm Elves!!!

I thought that the 1st edition rules used a 48x48 board for 25/28mm but was unsure of the 2nd ed(thought they might have changed it like they did with DBA)

And the reason for the 80mm frontages and larger depths is so we can get the full ammount of figs on each base and make up small dioramas on them( for asthetic reasons..)

I went to 90mm for DBA -it looks great.
I stuck with 60mm for HOTT though as I felt characters etc would look a bit lost on bigger bases -especially if it was square.
However I applaud your style -go big!

I've finally settled on 60mm X 50mm for Mounted and 60mm X 20mm (and sometimes 30mm) for foot for HOTT.

This allows you to use Warhammer figs as is. I put on magnet bases 20X20 for foot and 25X50mm (WH standard) for mounted.

Then place on bases 60X20 and 60 X 50. Figures not compatable for both games – you can freely switch. Use 3' by 3' for small games but 6X4 for bigger multiple player games.

Also use this basing system for my Game of Fire and Ice (based on Martin's work of the same name).
