Played my first games of C&C Ancients over the weekend-and had a GREAT time!

The system seems ridiculously simple and straight forward and really captures the strengths and weaknesses of the different arms as well as interaction between them.

It also seems HIGHLY adaptable.

So is/has anyone used C&C Ancients to game Napoleonics?

Or maybe a better question is (after all, what wargamer plays a set of rules as written) has anyone "borrowed" aspects from C&C Ancients and other rulesets and coppled together their own Naps ruleset?

I was thinking the combat system from C&C Ancients with some of the combat system from Grand Armee (what hits what on what dice throw), the command system from Might and Reason and some national characteristics would make a good Napoleonics game.

He has already produced a napoleonic game based on the Battle Cry system. I played Talavera with him at a Florida convention using 25mm several years ago. It project was presented to hasbro UK but they declined the option.

Ranged fire with one extra hex for Rifle units, different ratings for Battle and Light Cavalry; The cross Sabers only counted as a hit in a melee (adjacent hexes); morale bonuses for elite units; different rating for arty.

he also had a different system already done for AmRev too. .

Take a look at Battle Cry, the American Civil War version of C&C. I know Battle Cry has been adapted to AWI. I'm sure it could be morphed for Napoleonic scenarios by, say, reducing musketry range and increasing the effeciveness of (some) cavalry, maybe adding some modifiers for troop quality.

Rudy,

Thanks for the response. Sounds like both projects are finished and playtested. Does anyone know the author of these game systems? Any chance if of them seeing the light of day?

Richard Borg is the author of them all M44 , Ancient Colors, battleCry, battleLore.

He is also working on a new system, so I would expect some playtests at Hurricon or Recon 09.

I think they have a Napoleonic version of command and Colours its called Manouvere

dantheman21 Jul 2008 2:56 p.m. PST

Manouvere is not the same system. Very different and more abstract.

I'm sure Richard would love to see his system in production if he can only find a game publisher. From what I understand the Nappy system is older than the published games…just no takers to produce it. I have all his other games except for Battle Lore and love them.

Dantherman, do not let the Fantasy theme put you off Battelore. It and the scenarios are based on the 100 years Wars.

he even has a 100YW expansion out now.

In a recent supplement, The Scotish troops were Dwarf but Richard as he told me at Recon tried to get the French company to release his normal Scottish troops at the same time but they said no.

So as Dantherman indicated what the designer has availabale is often more than he can find a publisher to do or to expand a current system further.

As above, the original Battlecry was more aimed at Horse & Musket stuff. I did an FPW version.
