I truly Love this game and all the goodies that came with it (if only I could get the barbarian expansion I'd be truly blessed) I've used an 'Armati idea' with some success by assigning "key unit" identities to troop types that get the light troop massacre syndrone under a little control. I count skLI as half value but leave the LC alone as a full banner value. In 'greek on greek' this really worked well for me. Anyone got number 2 for sale? |

I have the frist set but haven't played yet. Watched a game next to me at the last Cincycon. Speaking of which this years Cincycon is Friday, Saturday and Sunday clay. march 2-4th. Hope you can make it. It's at the Atrium Hotel and Conference Center. Rooms are $59 USD bucks if you mention Cincycon. Vast amount of space. Did I mention hope to see you there! Thanks, John |

Gird your loins, and start stickering. Plan on an army taking an evening, so you don't get to sit down and pull it all together before your friends come over. Remind yourself, as the stickering seems like the most inane thing you've done all week, that it's a whole lot quicker than painting to that scale. Then play. Play like you're celebrating the history you're recreating. It's wonderful fun. |

JOHN, I really need to go, I love love love my little ancient blocks. stickering doesnt phase me a bit. I can do an army in like 5 innings (I also love baseball, everything else except hockey leaves me flat). I can play this solo real easy, its is a HOOT! its an armati like battle without the algebra, and it really seems to play out historically! its genious, I am not sure about the system being "musket and horse" friendly tho. Have to try it and see but If I have an afternoon free, the Macs and Persians or the Romans and Carthagininans come out. Thinkling real seriously about doing 20mm on HOTT MATTS 3-inch hex board. Might be the 2012 doomsday year project. bet it would be cool. |

We just play it with toy soldiers on Kallistra hexes. Much easier than sticking all those stickers on:) |

ORIGINAL POST, has anyone had sucess in reducing the "banner value" of skirmish troops to discourage the headhunting that seems to go alone with it. I find that this really makes sense to me if you award 1 banner for every 2 skirmish foot units eliminated. |

Can't say I've ever felt the need, to be honest. Against experienced players you often have to work pretty hard to get that last block. That said, if I were going to do it, I'd probably count the skirmishers as .75 of a banner rather than .5. Personally, I'd be loathe to make it a blanket house rule because I've been handed my backside by skirmishers on more than one occasion! Different people will play the same army in different ways, so if it feels better for you to reduce the value of skirmishers then go for it. Just as an FYI, there was a discussion a while ago amongst players in the VASSAL tournament gaming scene, and a number of them reckoned that bowmen/slingers are the most valuable units in the game. Cheers, Aaron |

Interesting point Achilles. Not having the 2nd/3rd expansion (curses) I could see where this may be a 'play-breaker' fighting Gauls/Britians/Celts/Germans etc. I'd give 90$ for numbers 2 and 3 if I could find them. |

Clays, if you join up at boardgamegeek.com and take a look at their Commands & Colors section you might be able to find someone willing to trade or sell their copy of those expansions. Good luck! Cheers, Aaron |
