I recently bought a set of rules called "To The Strongest!" by Simon Miller (BigRedBatCave). Myself and my good friend Stuart tried them out.

I set up a Cannae style battle of Romans and Carthaginians. The thinking being that if a set of rules can "do Cannae" they must be OK.

Very interesting, thanks. Do the rules suggest a grid size (say 10 wide by 8 deep) or is that left up to the player and available game space?

Great report and glad you like them. Mog and I are doing something similar tonight and I'll hopefully get a report up tomorrow.

Normsmith we just tend to use a grid to fit the playing area, I have a 6' x 4' cloth, marked one side with a 8" grid and the other with a 6" grid dependent on the unit sizes we are playing with. We tend to use fewer points on the 8" grid.

Hi Normsmith, I suggest a grid size 12 boxes wide by 8 deep. This gives a quick 2-3 hour game whilst allowing plenty of room for manoeuvre.

That said, the grid can be smaller, or very much larger; for the Pydna game at Partizan it was 27 boxes wide by 8 deep. That was a big game!
