So we are playing a game right now. I have artillery (f) shooting at his Knights (s). I checked the rules and it says knights are +3 vs foot and +4 vs bow shooting. He is contending that my artillery counts as bow and using the +4, I think it doesn't and he should only be +3, can anyone help on this? Thanks!

What game is this with rules that say that artillery counts as bows when shooting at knights??? I would require the Knight player to show the rule. If it cannot be found then I suggest that it does not exist.

We are playing DBM version 3.2. I don't see anywhere that it shows they count as bow.

Artillery are defined as Foot under troop definitions (pg.4).

So Knights are +3 when being shot at by Artillery.

Both artillery and bow are separate classes of foot. They are not both "bow". In this case bow have a different modifier than other foot.

Thanks for the responses guys. I was able to illustrate to him the difference by showing how it had blades listed as a +4 vs shooting but others have a modifier to specifically "bow shooting", thus the dostinction mattered.

Did the art(f) kill the Kh in the end?

maverick290914 Sep 2015 7:28 a.m. PST

Negative. Sadly the artillery didn't get a kill. I'm starting to think they aren't worth the points cost. However all was not lost, for I thought my blade we're doomed the moment he hit my line, however thanks to some skillful rolling on my part the Legionaries made quick work of the chariots!

DBM 3.2 was created by DBM players and may have some odd moments.

Its +4 v. shooting in DBA 3.0. Not "bow shooting".

Sure, but that text has been there since DBM 3.0 in that same form, so I don't think you can chalk it up to fan fiction. I believe that if we were to make those "all shooting" it would significantly devalue artillery, which in my personal experience is already a bad choice (aside from your opponent fielding elephants).

Maverick one assumes your blade were double ranked as then the Knights don't quick kill Bd.?
I've found art. great for shooting at Bw ( 4v2 ), driving away Lh and for breaking up lines heading towards you. Unless you are lucky enough to be able to shoot at elephants.

Negative. I had to single depth them as he had a lot of stands to his army and I feared he would have been able to surround me if I didn't. He only had 5-6 stands of chariots so it wasn't too bad. I just got some lucky rolls!
