I just got a message from Lulu, saying that the version released was an incorrect one, and I'll be getting a complimentary version of the one that was intended to be printed. I assume this is a 1.3 version, or does anyone have any more info?

I believe this is a development product. I think the final issue will be version 2.0. That is according to Sue's apology and as to what went wrong with the previous version.

Version 2.0 isn't ready yet. I think perhaps that 1.0 got printed and 1.1 should have been printed. I don't think that there is a lot of difference between the two.

I purchased the first LULU version. I am quite happy with it. I am using it for ACW and having a very good time. I still prefer V&B, especially for convention games… but HF&Gs is quite good for club games and 1 on 1s.

Also used the Lulu version for War of the Spanish Succession in 6mm and had a ball.

In general I'm happy with the Lulu version. The only gripe I have is with the strength of SPs. In 1.1 they are almost impregnable to armies lacking BL or Rifles, as they have to be doubled. About the only way to take them is hit them with an elite unit supported by a command element. Version 1.3 allowed for just beating them (which gives the Zulus a chance at Rorke's Drift), the rationale being that an army or corps commander would not personally lead an attack on such a position. A brigade commander, perhaps, but not a corps commander or the army CinC; it's not his job. For my purposes I just use the 1.3 rule in the event there's a strongpoint in the game.

Father Grigori, I'd be interested to know if you have been able to scale it down to have a Rorke's Drift game with HFG. If so, could you tell us about your mods/ how it went?

@ Durban Gamer

I didn't actually scale the game down, but the Zulu War British list includes a SP, presumably to represent Rorke's Drift or Eshow or similar. It appeared in a couple of battles friends and I did a while ago (it saved the British from defeat in one game). The main point though is that Spearmen have no chance of taking the SP unless you use the 1.3 rules. Under 1.3 its still difficult, but not impossible.
