I have a sudden and burning need to build. 28mm middle Assyrian DBM army. Looked at warlord, like what I see, kind of pricy $20 USD per two elements of foot on average. Any suggestions? Prefer plastics |

That's a big swathe of history right there and if someone does get around to making 28mm plastic "Biblicals" then it'll almost certainly be Hittites and Egyptians. The allies involved there and the chariots would give you chances with assembling an army from the early part of that period. |

I have a large Middle Assyrian army for Impetus. By Middle Assyrian I mean the Assyrian army of 1250 BC when the nation was on its ascendancy. The Assyrians for a time attempted to gain a port on the Mediterranean Sea but ultimately had to step back from this goal. This brought them into conflict with Egypt and the Hittite Empire. There isn't a lot of information on what the Assyrians of this period were dressed like. I am not convinced that the designer of Cutting Edge miniatures is correct to lump all the Near East peoples into one category but then again the evidence is inconclusive. In the end I used Foundry Mitanni chariots and did major conversions on Foundry Assyrians to get the right look for me (stayed away from the those Foundry packs that looked like Sargonic Assyrians.) |

Wikepedia has Middle Assyria as 1392-1056 BC. Most of the Assyrian lines (including BTD) represent later Assyrian forces that are commonly described as Neo Assyrian. Take a look at the Armies of the Near East to see examples of the different Assyrian periods. |

As some have already commented most Assyrian lines are of the Neo-Assyrian period of the Iron Age and even the early Neo period is lumped in with the Middle Assyrian period which is 500 years prior. If you look carefully at the pictures and text of the Stillman book then you will see that no one knows what the real Middle Assyrian forces looked like. We can only assume that, in keeping with the time period, that they looked similar to the rest of Late Bronze Age armies in the near east such as Mitanni and Kassite Babylonian armies. |

I agree. The warlord games line looks like this, with medium spearmen Bd(f) with banded leather strap armor and wicker shields. I would include a like but can't figure out how with iPad… |
