Haven't been active in the DBx community in a while. downloaded the free 3.0 draft and pleased with it.

I'm wondering when 3.0 will be released (I know it's late, save your smart remarks!),

Also wondering if this 3.0 will usher in similar updates for HoTT and DBR.

Thanks!

I don't believe there is any plans to update either of the other products mentioned.

timurilank03 Jun 2013 1:33 p.m. PST

There have been no rumblings to upgrade HOTT nor DBR in like fashion as DBA.

When 3.0 is to be released is a frequently asked question, but reading how things are developing, the army lists have been reworked and to all intents and purposes, the basic rules are tidied up with some very minor exceptions.

On the whole, I too have been pleased with the new version that I have finished 13 new armies since August of last year.

We also use DBA-HX for the Musket period, which we are now upgrading to work with the newer version of DBA.

Cheers,

There have been explicit statements that HOTT would not be revised.

DBR is undergoing some revision discussions with one of Phil's surrogates at the DBR Yahoo group. There is a need to transfer DBMM concepts to DBR but that is not desired by most of the players.

Phil will wait until groups get together and revise HoTT or DBR on their own, then he will announce plans for a complete and total revision himself.

I understand that a new printing of HOTT is being considered in a more glossy book, with a small number of minor clarifications to resolve a couple of issues But nothing changing dramatically enough to call it a revision.

However I suspect a glossy book does not mean a glossy book in the nature of say black powder, but something a bit more sophisticated than the previous printing of HOTT.

As to v3 I think it is now getting near to publication, but I am not going to tempt fate and say that out loud :-)

Like Bob, my understanding is that HOTT will be re-printed, but not "revised".

Don't know about DBR.

I believe that after DBA v3, the next thing off the blcok will be Horse, Foot and Guns. But we will see.

Werent DBR and HoTT more R Bodley Scott's babies?

Who asked this joker04 Jun 2013 8:38 a.m. PST

I believe HoTT was RBS. I thought DBR was PB.

I agree with platypus01au..

Phil and Sue were at Campaign a few weeks ago and we had a chat … broadly to the effect that DBA 3 is off his desk now and just in the hands of the folk who think it needs lots of diagrams. He was at Campaign with a number of other (new) WRG contributors working on and demoing HFG.

Bobgnar said that "There is a need to transfer DBMM concepts to DBR"

Why is there a need?

I also thought that the comment at the back of DBMM referring to DBM as "obsolete" was a little disappointing and inaccurate…

Actually there will be some updates to Hott in version 3.0…

Here is what Phil has mentioned…

Shooters will move 200 paces
Warbands will move 300 paces
Base Width movement will be offered as an optional rule.

There have been some rumblings as to change to Sneakers and to Water lurkers… but I doubt it. Phil has only mentioned the first three changes…

humph, a little disappointed that there's no date for 3.0

However, very excited to have…DIAGRAMS! in 3.0, I've already enthusiastically endorsed the notion, including a comment that I'd pay a few dollars more for diagrams.

Also, very interested in the additional variety of the troop types with Fast – while it adds a bit more complexity, I think it will make the system more nuanced. Not that I'm a DBxpert or something. DBM was in the end too complicated for me, so I'm happier with a slightly embellished 3.0.

It would also be nice to resolve the anomaly that arose with the revised flanml friction kills in V2.0.

Previously a Cleric could help a Hero mob a God with a friction kill, now that is not the case and the Cleric has lost this a bility as there is no recoil if a God loses.

The DBA 3 diagrams are as of yet only vapourware. They have been in the table of contents for 2 1/2 years (the big push with helpers started in Jan 2011) They would be so useful but they just cannot get out of the hands of the person making them.

Whenever I mention them, Phil tells me to shut up. Nobody else seems to want them or at least ask for them. So much of the round and round discussion of various rules would have been easier with diagrams.
