I got Dux Bellorum for Christmas, and am looking at sample armies with a view to working out some of my own.

The Late Saxon sample army has the strategy/tactic of Swift Deployment, although according to the Saxon army list this isn't available to them.

However, they do have some Irish allies, and their army list allows Swift Deployment.

If that is where the strategy/tactic came from in the sample army, would it only apply to the Irish allies unit?

Thanks in advance.

As I read it, that would be correct. However, it might be best to ask this of him.

Read down a bit on this thread for the links to his blog and his forum.

Thanks, I posted over at the boardgamegeek forum, and have had an answer from the man himself…

Good spot … This is a mistake, pure and simple. The Saxons shouldn't be allowed Swift Deployment.

In earlier drafts of the rules they could use it, but I thought I'd caught all of those little changes. Obviously not! Solutions I'd suggest are:

1) use the LP upgrade mentioned in the text
2) allow this army to use Swift Deployment …. I don't think that's too controversial
3) choose Experienced Warlord instead

Thanks for pointing this out and sorry to everyone for the error (kicking myself for that one).

I got this one for Christmas as well. I'm reading them right now and they really look like a fun game.I also like the concept of the LP's whereby your leader has a chance(not guaranteed ) to really influence the battle beyond giving a +1. I have been eyeing the old DBM Middle Earth lists with the aim of some no frills fantasy armies as well.In fact,I just sent off for some of Splintered Light's Wood Elves today, while the sale is still on.

They give great fun games. You can easily use larger armies and slot other ancients into the rule system.

It's awesome that the writer is being very honest about that.
