Has anyone looked at adapting these for other periods? I've got ECW in mind -maybe Indian Mutiny. |

Go ahead
just let us know what you come up with. I saw a Wars of the Roses variant on boardgamegeek.com the other day. |

I think it would need a lot of work to adapt it to other periods, especially ones where the nature of warfare was completely different, such as ECW. Dark Ages is very limited in nature, and these rules reflect this, with only a few different troop types, and no rules for different weapons. |

I agree with Marshal Mark, Dux Bellorum covers a period heavy in hand to hand fighting. To go to a shooting heavy period, there would need to be a lot of changes. |

Thanks guys – it is a tailor made set for that era . I like the idea of small battles with a 90 x 45mm base of 7/8 figs as a company or similar , in the style of Dux Bellorum. I've heard good things about File Leader. |

I plan to do a game for 6th century BCE Greece – the era hoplite fighting began to be used. Hoplites will shieldwall while the old style homeric fighters will be warband |

I would also vote for "File Leader". It's an elegantly simple, yet well thought out set of rules. In particular, I like the casualty system where a stand can either lose a figure or be pushed back for each hit taken. Take too many pushbacks and you are disordered. So casualties have some interesting effects in the rules. I have also found that, as long as base sizes are consistent on each side, you don't have to adhere to the sizes listed in the rules. |
