I finally managed to "finish" the Celtic project after a few years of stops and starts. Could be useful for anyone who wants to get into 10mm Ancients. link Thanks for looking. |

Great Blog KniazSuvorov, You've put me to shame as I've bought some of these Steve Barber/Pendraken/old glory figures but yet to get started but your site could give me some inspiration to get going and some ideas as to colour schemes to. cheers Pablo '66' |

Great looking figs. I'd never take that much time with 10mm figs. |

Good work, some interesting stuff in there. I'll definitely be having a look at our chariots. |

Beatifull work KniazSuvorov! I also wondered about all the extra harness gear on many of the chariots (Pendraken, OG, MM) the best I can find/determine is that there should be a cross bar behind the 2 horses, with the straps down the side of the horses connecting to the bar, and the bar connected to the central shaft much like an artillery caisson
picture I fixed my war-wagons up using piano wire, but is this correct for chariots? Chris the Tall |

Hi all, thanks for the compliments. The bases I used are the suggested sizes for this scale: 60mm wide by 20mm, 30mm or 40mm deep depending on troop type. Steve Barber's 10mm stuff is indeed gorgeous; I sold a lot of mine off (unfortunately) to fund my 6mm Borodino project, but the bits I've got left should turn up as I do more of these BI armies. As for the chariot harness-- well, I'd never thought about it until trying to paint the minis. I kept looking at all these different models and artists' renderings, and there doesn't seem to be any real consensus. I think with a lot of other chariot cultures (Egyptian, Warring States Chinese, etc.) we know a lot about their chariot harnesses because models were sometimes included as grave goods. With the Celts, they buried the actual chariot, but maybe any harnesses they included have simply rotted away? Unless someone knows better, it kind of looks to me like most minis are based on someone's "best guess," or simply copied from pre-existing minis. |
