Hi Guys I've played ancients (either DBX, Amarti 2nd Edition or FoG; even WAB) but was looking at IMPETUS recently. I like the look of it. Any comments or views from the Aussie Ancients Fraternity? Cheers |
Custine | 02 Jan 2010 3:50 a.m. PST |
We have been playing them here in Victoria for a few months now and are really impressed with the system. Its fast , its elegant and its fun. |
MWright | 02 Jan 2010 3:55 a.m. PST |
Any links? I like the LOOK of the game. Great bases. |
blacksoilbill | 02 Jan 2010 4:29 a.m. PST |
There's myself and another bloke playing them in Brisbane. I really enjoy the game. It's fairly fast – 2-3 hours once you've got the rules under your belt. Many interesting choices along the way. |

Hi Custine Where in VIC? I'm at Broadford (Kilmore / Puckapunyal /Seymour area). I'd like to see a game in action before I purchase the "full" version of the rules. Cheers |

If you look at the Impetus Forum Trailape, you will find under gamers wabted a few listed for Melbourne, though I have only had a go at Solo BI at the moment, its impressive |

Hi..Other bloke from Brisbane here
Bill and myself have been playing them for the past few months..just putting the finishing touches to 2 500pt armies on the big bases..Parthians and Sassanid persians(yes Bill, those cataphract camels are finished and ready to take on the Persian hordes!!!)..i've been playing Ancients for many years and can say in all honesty that they are the best i've ever played. If you want to be in total charge of your army all the time then these might not be the rules for you as there are alot of unexpected things that happen during the game to keep you on your toes!!!! You start off the game with a plan and then watch your command and control dissappear out the window as the game goes on and various troops get stuck in combat or ride around the flank for a decisive manouvere(!) only to find them being a bit unwilling to charge in!!!
all in all they are great fun..a thing that is missing in alot of rulesets
.. Got another guy in Brizzy interested(he's got the rules and should be joining us down the club for his first game next club meet)..also am trying to convert a few of the jaded FoG players too
we'll see. Buy 'em..you won't regret it
Cheers Andy |

Hi Guys Of what I've seen they look pretty good. I do like the basing system very much. Do the rules come with Army Lists? If so, do they have lists coving the Trojan Wars and Late Roman / Artharian period, (my two favourite)? I assume they do, but are they organic to the rules, or do you need to buy ARMY BOOKS (ala DBM and FoG) Cheers |

In Brisbane, have had the rules since they came out. A couple of friends and I intermittently play Armati over the last 10 years. Looking for something different and Impetus is great (one game of Basic Impetus with some add-ons from the full set). I like it but my friends (but one) do not like rolling lots of dice. Also we are used to Intro Armati which plays on a 2'x3' table – Impetus 300pts is larger than we would be used to. Currently trialling Warrior Kings with cm rather than inches which is producing a very fun game. Likely to get back into more gaming in the next few years and back to the club – haven't been for about 14 years but I think went to every meeting in the 1980s. If someone in Brisbane is looking for a game or two this year I could manage that as I have read the rules lots over the last 20 months. I may just turn up to the club this year just to see a game in action! but to answer your question – I think Impetus is one of the best rulesets to come out in 30 years of ancient/medieval gaming. |

Hi Does anyone know if the rules are available from any of the merchants here in Australia, or is purchasing from OS the only option? Cheers |
blacksoilbill | 04 Jan 2010 11:55 p.m. PST |
Pretty sure that purchasing from overseas is the only way, but mine arrived inside a fortnight from memory. And Shaun, you should come along – Andy and I are at B.I.G., and you'd be welcome for a game. Bill. |
andyfb | 05 Jan 2010 3:20 a.m. PST |
Hi Shaun You'd be most welcome at the BIG club
.2nd sunday of every month. Always wanted to try Armati
Have got Armati 2 but never found anyone willing to try them
. Have got 2 500 pt armies for Impetus so if you wanted to try them out on a full size table at the club then give us a shout
Cheers Andy |
losart | 05 Jan 2010 4:04 a.m. PST |
hi Trailape, not distributors in Australia so far but you can oder from Impeus website dadiepiombo.com/ishop.html with Payapal. Orders are usually shipped within 24-48h and postage rates are below the true cost. |
Steve W | 05 Jan 2010 4:06 a.m. PST |
thats a pity , I was hoping somebody like Mind Games might have brought it in, as they stock all the Warhammer Historical and Crusader rules |
andyfb | 05 Jan 2010 8:09 p.m. PST |
Steve W
.only problem if they were in Aussie stores is that the price would double(at least)
. I got mine in under 2 weeks and they arrived in excellent condition
i wouldn't hesitate to order from Lorenzo again

.both are talking about which armies they are going to build and eagerly waiting for next club meet
cool. Cheers Andy |
