Hi there, I have recently bought Terry Gore's Medieval Warefare. Ive been reading through the start of the book and im a little confused over the basing requirements. I think the game is meant for 28mm figs. But im wanting to play the game using 10mm figs from Pentdragon. Can anyone let me know how best to base them.

In the only other wargame ive played its just been one model on a base representing one man (Arc of Fire for WW2)
so im a little confused.

Thanks a lot

I would suggest using the small stands (20x20 mm), and basing on one stand either 4 infantry, 2 cavalry or 1 artillery piece with crew.

thats what i was thinking till i noticed that they have cavalry on 20x50mm bases. But do you think it would be ok at 20x20?

Thanks.

I think the cavalry would do better on 20x20 mm bases than on 20x50 mm bases.

I thought MW was a stand based game. It removes single casualties?

Every MW game i've seen had DBM type stands with multiple figures. So you could just put more 10mm figures on the base and track hits with casualty caps.

I would base as 15mm with more figures. In other words, 40mm wide bases. Why? Because you could then use them to play Field of Glory or other DBM basing style games….

I need to have some serious thought and look into the availiablity and costs of 15mm over 10mm. My originaly plan was to use 1/72nd plastics, but basing them singly on 20x20 bases just looks wrong and i dont think i have a big enough table for 40x40 (6x4 foot)

So i thought maybe 10mm and the 20x20 bases. 4 inf on a typical ordered base or 2 cav. (basicly per the numbers for 28mm on 40x40.

Im slowly working my way through reading the rules for MW and to be honest its a bit odd. But like I say im new to this. Anyway ill get back to the reading :)

Thanks for the input so far, and please continue giving me the advice :)

There are lots of 10mm figures available – especially for historicals – prices start at about 10p per figure – probably cheaper than 20mm plastics.

As well as Pendraken have a look at, Magister Millitum, Minifigs, Old Glory, and also Kallistra.

You could use 30x30mm base for 1/72 or 15mm on 20x20 bases.
