There's probably a review somewhere on these boards, but I couldn't seem to find it. Has anyone played/tried these extremely expensive rules? Thanks, Tom |

These are the best.Have tried too many others to count. |

Aren't they essentially Terry Gore's version in fancy clothes? TMPer Uesugi Kenshin reviewed them on Amazon: link Allen |

Yes they are Terry Gore's version. I have both versions, bought the one from Foundry not realising I had the prior set. They have been sitting on my "Want to try" list for some time. I agree with Allen, they are dressed up. My disapointment (this is true with all Foundry rules) is that they don't clean up the rules. One of the reviews makes a comment that the rules are 200% improvment. Well I just don't see that. Chris |

There is a Yahoo group from when Terry was in SAGA and it has several files and docs and explanations etc. link and link although I seem to recall one of the two had a major spamming issue. JJ |

I don't see Swiss mentioned in the army lists, but Foundry sells a Swiss Army deal. Is there a Swiss list for these rules? |

The Foundry version is almost unchanged from SAGA's. Army lists and perhaps the scenario books are available from SAGA publishing and some retailersw still have stocks. These are my favorite medieval rules and the only ones I've played that can really handle horse archer armies against non horse archer armies. |

I've played them for years, and the Ancient spinoff as well. I wish Foundry supported the rules and the group of guys who worked with Terry and Bruce Taylor to develop them. Having said that, the Saga_Warfare Yahoo Group is comprised of the rump of Terry's group and it is a good place to go for support, Q&A's, etc. link

The Saga rules are good, I have not actually seen the Foundry version. |

These are excellent rules, in all their incarnations (Renaissance, Lace, Ancient, etc). Look for discounts that Foundry occasionally runs. Cheers, gregoryk

gregoryk is spot on. Just before Christmas they were on sale -- along with all the other "Foundry Publications" for US$20.00 with no charge for postage, which gives you some idea of what the markup is for the regular price! I actually bought my copy through Amazon, for a price somewhere between the $50-$60 Foundry regular price and their special sale price. I like the rules and hope to play them more often in the future. |

The Foundry rules have a slightly better organization and a considerably better format. There are more army lists in the foundry rules than in the Saga version. The Saga version, while completely functional, felt a little peiced together as you got toward the back of the book. The Foundry version organize things a little better and I did not get that impression. Bottom line, if you own the Saga version and at least the early medieval army lists, don't bother with Foundry. If you don't own them, you might as well get the Foundry version for the better look. John |

Thanks for all the advice folks. Is there a list for the Swiss included? If not, the rules are really of no use to me. |

I think that there are lists on the Yahoo group,if not then the group is the place for advice, if not then message me as I think I have a copy somewhere. simon.h.lee@tesco.net |

I was liking the Medieval Warfare rules OK until I got to the section on combat resolution. Adding up modifiers from a big table, then rolling dice, then multiplying, and then dividing to find casualties seems like a really clunky way to handle it. |

Combat system is pretty straight forward once you get used to it. I like the rules, but there are certain aspects that I find difficult. In tournaments I used to play in it was easy for longbows and artillery to dominate the later periods. In line with history, but not much fun. The earlier armies are more interesting to me. there are plenty of army lists available, but not through Foundry. Check with Saga with get the most up to date lists. |

Anyone know how the Renaissance set is coming? Is that near publication? |
Uesugi Kenshin | 07 Oct 2013 7:44 p.m. PST |
There was a Renaissance set put out before Terry ever teamed up with Founder. I think I've got a copy if someone wants it. I never heard any news about them re-releasing the Renaisance set. |
