Ron the Blonde and Robert the Bold each commanded a tribe of Gaul's in an epic Might of Arms (MoA) battle last night in Mechanicsville.

Each tribal chief commanded a 800pt army. Robert the Bold chose to bring 4 units of Sub Heavy "Fearless" (F) infantry, 2 units of light Inf and 2 units of Med Cav. All but the cav were C class, his Cav was B class

Ron the Blonde commanded 2 units of Sub Heavy "Fearless" (F) infantry (B Class), 2 units of Med Inf, 1unit of Light Chariots (Jav) 1 unit each of skirmish Javelin, Slings and Bows (all C class). Ron's y Cav consisted of 1 unit each of Heavy and Med both B Class.

Ron's Gaul's moved first and double timed to take advantage of to copse of trees securing the flanks of my Sub Hvy Inf with all my skirmishers out front. . A 2nd force of Chariots, MED Inf and Med Cav swept around the left flank while et HVT CAV went to the right flank.

Rob deicide to let his barbarians free and charged forward only to meet the sting of hostile "missile" (sling, Javelins and Bow) troops. Before the battle started Rob said he knew the lack of "missile" troops would hurt and he was right…

The first hand to hand occurred when the Ron's Chariots hit a unit of Sub Hvy Gaul's. That fight went 3 rounds before the chariots routed but did cause 2 fatigue points on the Gaul's. First time I used the Chariots and they are handy. They have javelin (missile) , fight INF w/ a rating of 6 and get the CAV +3 bonus for a charge. Only drawback is they cannot break off against Inf like a Cav unit can.

Rob sent his two LT INF into the woods and they were countered by Ron's MED Inf. Both these fights went numerous rounds when both of Ron's Med Inf routed. Things were looking bad for Ron the Blonde as he had lost three units to none of enemy!

On the right flank Ron's Hvy Cav charged into Robs MED Cav. Both "B" rated units beat up on each other for two rounds when Rob charged in the melee with a 2nd MED Cav. It was now 2 to 1 and still the hand to hand combat raged for 3 more turns before the Ron's Hvy Cav broke and routed but left both of Rob's Med Cav in pain!

In the center the battle was quiet as Rob kept his flanks in hand to hand combat. The main action taking place in the center was from Ron's Skirmishers who laid down withering "missile" fire slowly taking a toll on the Sub Hvy Inf and supporting Med Inf. After seeing 4 of Ron's unit route Rob ordered his main line of Sub Hvy Inf forward. First to drive off the skirmishers and then hit Ron main battle line. One of Robs Sub Hvy Inf had to go into the woods to chase off the Skirmishers which in turn tremendously slowed down their movement and allowing the enemy skirmishers to encircle it.

The Skirmishers kept up their relentless fire and whittle away on the enemy causing them to take and fail numerous morale checks and going shaken. (To recover from shaken a unit must stand still one full turn)

Around turn 12, still with 4 units routed to none of the enemy, Ron the Blonde ordered his Sub Heavies forward. The 1st unit went into a charge and smashed into one of Robs beaten up Sub Hvy Inf. Neither of Ron Sub Hvy Gaul's or any of the Skirmishers had yet to take a casulaty. "Fearless" (F) troops have two advantages, 1st is they do not need to take a morale check to charge or counter charge. The biggest advantage is if they win the first round of hand to hand combat and force the enemy to take and FAIL a morale check the result by passes "shaken" and goes to a route. Since Rob's barbarians were hurting before being charged they lost the first round and had to take a morale…which they failed. This set off a massive turn of events where over half his army was forced to take a morale check due to seeing the first unit route (all within a chain of 8 inches) Rob the Bold through string of 10-12 in 2d6 routing 4 more units! His Army Collapsed!

Victory goes to Ron the Blonde….You can visit Robert the Bold to pay your respects as his HEAD is hanging out side my tent on a pole in tribute to his bravery!

It was a great game with nasty, smelly, hairy, half naked tattooed men cutting and slashing at each other for 2.5 hours

Rob vowed to soon order some 15mm Gaul skirmishers and perhaps even a unit of Chariots.

Sounds like a fun game (with a great set of rules). Any pics?

So sorry no photos…which is too bad because Rob has a beautifly painted Gual army.
