RECENT BATTLE REPORTS
Michael Marconi

Played Might of Arms - Roman civil wars. Used many game options. [03 Sep 1999]

K. A. Brown

Small battle: Marian Rome vs. Early Spartans. The Romans were beaten, maunly due to being enveloped, and losing the general (his unit was hit in flank). Nasty game all in all. I failed to keep my focus :( [7 Jun 1999]

Donald Effinger

We played 2000 pts. Warhammer Anients battle, Carthagian vs. Alexander. [14 May 1999]

In our local tournament I deployed Graeco-Bacttrian facing Yuan Chinese. I lost after 3,5 hours. My opponent was superior with experience of years. But I went good too. I wanted to get 1/2 element from his C-in-C command or 1 element from his second command to get the victory. [21 Apr 99]

Eric Burgess

We fought an Archon game between a combined Greek force versus Persians and Mendizing Greeks. The Greeks won, but it was a very close battle. I can't remember all the details since it was about 3 months ago. You can see pictures of the battle at the following website. http://www.garrison-clubs.org/clubs/charlottegallery.htm - Eric Burgess [27 Apr 99]

Daniel Tallarek

We played a campainge around the first Punic War. We used DBM for the major battles, an changed version of Tactica for siege and Naumaichae for the sea battles. It was great and lasted 2 weeks. Funny was that Rome was besiegned and conquered in 240BC. [8 Apr 99]

My last Ancients game was Early Imperial Roman vs Marian Roman. It was 400Pts, pre-set terrain. I chose Western Roman with Sarmation Allies and 4 commands. My opponant had 3 commands. Simply I was able to hit my opponants line of blades with the Sarmations which were supported by Light horse, Cavalry and Auxilia infantry. The

Sarmations then proceded to destroy every element which they contacted. I was very lucky with pip and combat die rolls and destroyed 20 elements wich demoralised 2 commands for the lose of 2 Light horse elements. Basically I was very lucky. [4 Apr 99]

Daniele Varelli

Early Germans vs. Traianic Romans, using Armati rules. After a lot of skirmishing, Roman cavalry managed to override my warbands... :( [31 Mar 99]

Tony Edwards

My last game I was teaching a newb the game system. He had just bought a Carthaginian army, and faced off against my greeks. I actually was doing pretty well pushing his battle line back through the center (thanks Sparta!) until his elephant finally rode around my rear and started wreaking havok. But it was fun. [30 Mar 99]

Steven Goode

Not terribly interesting to recount, since both I and my opponent made a number of mistakes when it came to applying the rules correctly.

I was using Polybian Romans against Gauls. The battlefield was mostly clear, with a gentle hill in the center. My goal was to advance in a "box" formation, with one edged anchored against the board edge and my other flank guarded by cavalry. I wanted to get on top of the hill for a height advantage, but as it turned out, the Gauls got there at the same time so neither of us had a height advantage. I tried to send my skirmishers ahead of my legionaries to disrupt the Gallic advance, but that didn't work too well. It slowed them down, but they still managed to break through my line. I wheeled more legionaries to outflank the Gallic wargband, but they couldn't quite catch the Gauls. This game would have been a disaster for the Romans, but the Gallic cavalry suffered an ingnominious (sp) defeat at the hands of my Triarii (spearmen) on the flank. I really like DBA's handling of the legion-warband interaction. It's very suspenseful and dramatic. [30 Mar 99]
