I always wondered how this game played…I never saw any real reviews of it, but then again I was a bit lax on things at that time…

Good beer and pretzels game. You can easily knock off 3 games in a night.

Don;t get me wrong, it's a beautiful set up, but begs the question "What is (or isn't) a minis game?"

El Brazo de Nelson08 Aug 2008 4:35 a.m. PST

Hello All,

This my set-up pictured, using 6mm Baccus ACW figures. I made a felt hex mat with 4.5" hexes and made the terrain hexes out of sheet foam material from Hobby Lobby. I am the guy on the left in the first picture. "Battle Cry" is a great con game because it is so easy to pick up the rules in a turn or two, so I usually run it (or a "Memoir'44" in 15mm scale) at every con that I attend. Thanks for the nice compliments, and thanks for posting this Bill. I will be running some "Memoir'44" games at the "Heat of Battle 2" World War II gaming convention at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans on August 22-24. Hope to see some of you there.

Regards,
Clay Cooper

Also, there is a TMP member here who has another version but he goes the other way – he uses 54mm figures! He often runs the game at Little Wars and encourages kids to play. His set up looks far more "tactical" but the game works.

Nice setup Coopman, great idea for a game.

We do it in 15mm…

I remember playing this at the last Bayou Wars. It was a fun game and gave a much better sense of scale than the figures provided in the boxed set. Thanks for a great game Clay. Salut!

My son played it several times at Little Wars a few years back and took great pride in winning the game.

Battle Cry rocks!

One of my gaming buddies (with whom I have lost contact) and I had a lot of fun playing Battle Cry together in years past.

Even though I've only played these particular games straight from the box myself, I've enjoyed seeing what folks can do with miniatures and games like Battle Cry, Memoir 44, and Command and Colors.

We played it down at our club in 25mm.

Richard Borg does all his playtesting for his systems in miniature. I have seen both 15mm and 25mm Command and Colors done at conventions by Richard. i have played Richard in his Napoelonic version in 25mm. I have seen him run a Battlecry tournament at Recon/Hurrison. i think it was in miniature.

I will have to ask him what scale the M44 was done in. I think 15mm. I know the AmRev system was in 15mm because I sold him the castings.

I got a chance to play M44 in 20mm with Mr. Borg at Historicon. He was playtesting some new additions which are really cool. I also asked about the Napoleonic version of Battle Cry. He said that it would most likely be released in 09 or at latest 2010!

Thanks Extra Crispy and Lost Wolf. Sorry to be late to the thread. I call it Big Battle Cry when I do it in 54mm. Here are some links to pictures of the Little Wars games. Also some M44 using GHQ. I am finishing up BattleLore in 54 for conventions in the future. Clay, I know you've been doing this as long as I have.

M44 and BattleLore are putting out new mutli-player versions that will be great for convention games (and I would like to think very good looking ones.)

Great looking stuff, Bill! You took the exact opposite approach for your ACW games. You went with as large a scale as was practicable and I went with the smallest scale that I felt was usable. Both scales look great and work fine. I see that you are sometimes using a larger battlefield that the standard 9 x 13 hex grid used in Battle Cry. This is something that I eventually want to do also, but so far I've stuck with the standard size battlefield. I am using my 15mm FOW minis to play Memoir '44 games. I will be running several M'44 games at the "Heat of Battle 2" convention in New Orleans on Friday, 22 August at the National WW2 Museum.

Bill, where did you learn about the multi-player M'44 version? That is good news, as I was thinking about thinning out my collection of 54mm, WWII stuff. Now I get to keep it or buy more!

Battle Cry Bill15 Aug 2008 10:14 p.m. PST

Craigspiel,

Go 54!

The multiplayer versions are the M44 Overlord games. In BattleLore it is the Epic battles. Rules are available for download on their website. Their is also an Epic C&C:Ancients version.

BTW, I couldn't get M44 to look right in 54mm so I went to 1/285. I think it was the boccage terrain that just never looked right. Pacific M44 works much better. I am working on a Guadalcanal painted set up. Here are pictures of an experiment that looked good enough to be encouraging.

There are actually lots of ways to make Battle Cry a multiplayer game. I usually add more units to the ACW battles and do more terrain. For a convention game there is blood right away and it teaches itself.

Coopman,

The cloth for Kursk was one I found at the convention and it was only a couple rows and columns different than the standard 13x9 x 2. I only use the hexes to make it Overlord size. The cool thing about those convention games, was that I had an overall experienced commander on each side that had played M44 and the team interactions were very interesting.

I am working on BC – AWI in both 6mm and 54mm. I think you already adapted BC to AWI (I think I have your rules.) I think those battles will be really fun.

Damn that reminds me I have not seen Rocky in years. On the box he was the guy on the left with the beard. we were in the 9th Texas together (but he had his yankee impression on for the photo)
