Armchair generals with 20/20 hindsight who make snarky comments are never appreciated. Looks like you had a fun time regardless of the after-game snarkiness of fluffers who didn't participate.

Wow, your reports bring back a bunch of bad memories. I had a similar experience playing Battlefront WWII at a convention a number of years ago. Inexperienced players (with the rules) had to attack a challenging defensive position against experienced players, who commented on our ignorance and poor performance. It was one of the few poor convention games I have ever attended. It left a bad enough taste that I have avoided any such games using that ruleset, regardless of the scenario, in order to avoid those players. This is a shame, as the rules seem pretty good. Sorry your experience was not convention standard.

Thanks for posting Bill;
At least the tabletop looked much more interesting.
Its a shame that from what I gathered of these two AARs, that there were more negatives and than positives in each game.

Battlefront WWII is an excellent rules set with great support and scenarios on their website. Always enjoyed running games using the SkirmishCampaigns books [two methods of translating the scenarios from Skirmish to Battalion]. These two scenarios sound like nightmare experiences. Using the KISS principle is always the best policy – especially for conventions.

Sounds like your Cooper's Cave boys don't know what the word "mature" means – and your GM was a biased nitwit ruling in favor of his regular customers. Hope you rewarded him by not spending a cent at his booth.

More fun to read about it than play in it, I guess.
WC Fields to young, glamorous blonde: "What would you like to drink, my dear?"
Glamorous blonde (giggling): "Champagne, I guess."
WC Fields: "Guess again!"

I was the GM of the American/German game at Council and have no connection whatsoever to Cooper's Cave. I came up from Cape Cod, a 4 hour drive to put on the game to support the con.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. I can only put up a scenario I think will be challenging to both sides, I cannot know who will attend, be they experienced or not or as you call 'jerks'. Various personalities are always present. I do not choose who plays or place them on a specific side.
We're (mostly) adults and have to be thicker skinned when others do not play well with others. Enjoy the game (it is only a game after all) as best as you can. If the company is not worthy, no one is forcing anyone to stay.

Being a GM is a thankless job. If you have put on games you know what I mean. Seeing all the negative comments from people that weren't even there is interesting.

Well said teaticket,
I find that the people who balk the most are the ones that rarely volunteer or give anything back to this hobby I have my own opinion's regarding BF and there way of messing with rules constantly. but Good for you and THANK YOU for giving of your time to support the hobby and the Con's that you go to. Not every game is going to be balanced or can be there are to many "what IF's" at a Con. the players & the dice rolls. IT's a Game you play if you can't get any enjoyment out of it then get out of it, and stop disheartening the people who volenteer there time I've been going to conventions since 1985 East, South & MidWest there are people that I will not game with because all they do is complain but I will NOT let them be what keeps me from enjoying the day. (I digressed)
Again Thank You teaticket…..
