Convention scenario design is tricky. It sounds like this one was not playtested before the convention, had lots of complicated optional rules, and was possibly too big for the time allotted, not to mention that a flat map is not the most interesting situation to begin with. Being one of the authors of BFWW2 (and therefore somewhat familiar with the rules), I would expect that 4 88s would be able to easily handle large numbers of British tanks unless the British had artillery support. Of course if the gamemaster orders you to mount them up and move them, the British are then fighting transport vehicles. Please don't blame the rules :-)

It sounds like this one was not playtested before the convention…

I think this was a case of the GM thinking he had enough experience to be able to just "throw together" a scenario.

Definitely poor scenario design, though the "orders" actually sounded like a good bit of misdirection. Too bad the player mix (and the apparent level of gamemaster experience with the rules) were what they were.

BF WW2 is my second favorite WW2 set (after Crossfire) and I've played lots of convention games (even run a couple) using it and never had an experience as bad as what you've described.

Maybe its just bad juju.

Doesn't sound like it had much to do with FOW, more GMEGO…pity, it isn't a bad game.

BFWW2 is a great set of rules (I much prefer them to Crossfire.) So don't blame the rules for poor presentation.
