For our second Filipino-language (Tagalog) wargaming video, we chose to translate Secrets of the Ocean Keep. You can never have too many pirate songs! ![]()
To make the translation easier, I went through the English lyrics and changed things where I thought it would make things clearer. For example, I changed 'painted sea' to 'paper sea', since this game is played on a gaming mat. I didn't have to worry about rhyming or rhythm, as the AI would handle that when it did the translation.
Gemini translated the lyrics as:
Mga lihim ng dagat (Secrets of the Sea)
Verse 1
Ang tubig ay mataas, puno ang baso,
Hindi kwentong-barbero, walang halong biro.
Ang plota natin, layag ay maringal,
Mga modelong plastik, handang sumugal!
Kanyon ay handa, dice ay inihagis,
Tsansa ng mandaragat, hindi matitiris!Chorus
Yo ho ho, isang masayang pagdiriwang!
The AI chose to leave a few words in English: Jolly Roger and tavern. The chorus ends with 'Mga lihim ng dagat, panatilihing lihim!', which translates as 'Secrets of the sea, keep them secret!'.
I gave Sonauto this musical prompt:
in the style of pirates, deep male voices, sea shanty
And the music tags it came up with were 'concertina, 2020s, fiddle, stomp and holler, folk rock, sea shanty'.
Sonauto quickly came up with a suitable tune – it seems AI likes pirate songs!
Making the Video
I asked Nano Banana for new art, with the pirates turned Filipino:
I trimmed off the black frame, resized the art, then had Flux Klein touch it up.
Caption files were made in Tagalog, as well as English, French, German and Spanish.
The final step was to combine the new music and new art with titles, using ClipChamp:
I've posted the video as a reel on the TMP Facebook page, where it has done even better than our first Tagalog video. Most viewers are in the 35-44 age bracket.
