I was going to update our The Old Benbow Inn music video – one of the first ones we ever made – by adding captions for five languages, as we do standard now.

Then I realized that the art from that video was reused for Secrets of the Ocean Keep (still one of my favorites!), which meant I had the old tune but no art to go with it.

So I asked Gemini to create an image of people playing a miniature wargame, based on the song lyrics. It gave me this:

The Banshees of War

I was a little taken aback by this one, as it shows what Gemini 'knows' about miniature wargaming:

  • We're all members of wargaming clubs
  • We typically wear club T-shirts
  • These T-shirts are typically black
  • We like to roll dice into leather dice trays (never saw this before, but it's real, called a leather dice rolling tray)
  • From the lyrics, it decided the rules being played were Thunder & Steel
  • We play games in pubs
  • Wanted posters hang on the walls of the pub
  • Candles are used (including by the men in the background having dinner)
  • We use a lot of cotton to simulate gunsmoke

Gemini also emphasized the 'historical' part by linking the tabletop to some kind of time portal to the past!

The tabletop looks good at first glance, but on further inspection, doesn't look much like a real miniature wargame. AI doesn't seem to 'get' that part yet.

Making the Video

Caption files were created for English, French, German, Spanish and Tagalog.

The final step was to combine the old music with the new art, using ClipChamp:

I've posted the video as a reel on the TMP Facebook page. I did not have high expectations, as this is not a new song, but it was the most popular TMP music video of the week, with a lot of positive reaction. It was mostly viewed by wargamers, mostly the 25-34 demographic, doing well in the UK (28%), USA (24%), Italy (5%), Poland (5%), France (4%), and Philippines (3%).
