Why a North-facing window? South-facing is better for my part of the world!

I picked a couple and then "other". The room will have to be soundproofed so the noise from the compressor (as I wanted an airbrush station) won't wake the rest of the house, or better yet, a sound-proofed compressor :-)

I need about 10 choices, five is not enough…..

Agree with Strosstruppen – can't settle for just five picks on this one.

Other – Paint Room? LUXURY!

Luxury??? Come on, surely every gamer has a dedicated painting room/military history library and another one for the gaming table/unpainted lead storage???

Well, I've got the dedicated painting room/library, but not the dedicated game table.

Five choices is not enough. And BTW I had nothing like a dedicated game anything until about 5 years ago. Well, excepting my dedicated gaming footlocker while in service grin

Space. More of it.

I am lucky that I have my paint corner in the basement now. I have many of the things on the list, or have plans for them.

As was said above, 10 or more choices would be good.

snodipous26 Jan 2012 10:13 a.m. PST

As long as I have a decent chair and some audiobooks (preferably Deathlands!), I can paint anywhere.

Not always true. My paint table is a corrugated board that I put away in the hall closet every night so the kids don't get to my paints. My game table is the game table at the house we game at for that time. I do have a good sized basement that is occupied by all the junk my wife and I have collected over the years. I've cleaned it twice since we moved into this house and still it still slides back to the messy state it is accustomed to.

Not a painter so voted other.

I've got most of them in my game/painting room now. I built the house around my gaming and painting habit. My gaming and painting room is 20' x 20' with a corner painting station with overhead florescent light clouds with directional spot lighting, paints on stacked racks and spinning racks with inks, paints, and brushes organized in various locations convenient to reach. On one side is my computer with scanner/printer, I've got bookshelves surrounding the walls, an airbrush station with vented hood fan and compressor system. There is only one problem – I live 20 miles from anyone who games except my dad. So, I host paint night out at my place once a week and invite my Air Force Service men who game/paint and want to have something to do other than go to a bar out for a night of chatting, painting, and sometimes gaming. It's been a great tradition. The downside is I have to rotate through different members every couple of years as they complete their tours of duty and muster out to return home and get different jobs or go to college. The upside is that I have friends all over the country that I can visit when I have a chance to get close to their home town. Now I'm working on building a garage so the gaming room/painting room can be converted into bedrooms for kids and the room will be moved. Of course that will take a bit of time!

I have almost everything I want in my basement office. The only thing I am missing right now is a better solution for venting my airbrush station as it's impossible to use now in the winter. I don't game at my house so no gaming table.

We cleaned out our basement and crawlspace 12 years ago and finished the basement so we wouldn't be tempted to start collecting garbage again. Definitely worth the effort.

Looking at that list I feel like such a painting tyro.

Other: Packing supplies, web links to favorite painters…

Private Matter27 Jan 2012 8:58 a.m. PST

My fifth choice was "other" and my other to round out my perfect painting station is a person who knows how to paint well and will do it for free. That would complete my perfect painting environment.

For my other I would go for a slide up / down paint rack and monitor gadget.

The monitor would sit on top and slide up out of the way for the paints to rise like a mighty Wurlitzer from under the desk!

Wheres the coffee maker go? no coffee maker? I cant work under these conditions!

Well, I have a basic painting area with racks for paints, minis and drying and a reasonable painting service, but the light leaves something to be desired

If at home, My crowded confuser desk. At Larry's, his less crowded table.

Scott Kursk30 Jan 2012 2:11 p.m. PST

Actually, I'm pretty happy with my painting room. I traded a neighbor for some shelves and I've completely got it clean and organized but I love it. It's what in theory is my dining room. So, the fridge and coffee maker are a step away as is plenty of fresh air and light coming off the patio.
