I've been following the 1971 chess match between Spassky and Fischer, with analysis.

Strange. With these fierce competitors, a game never goes to checkmate.

I leave the decision up to the player/s who are in control of the losing side. Which ends up being about a 50% decision to continue or stop.

Call it upon mutual agreement.

Other. Call it, unless the game is part of a campaign, in which case, finish it.

I agree with VicCina. If I am on the winning side, I leave it up to my opponent. If they want to call it or are not having fun at all, we end it.

If I am on the losing side, I will often fight it out (and have pulled out a couple of wins from hopeless situations).

Depends very much on the victory conditions, whether it's part of a campaign, and how much time remains.

I think the side losing has the option

I usually fight out the game if on the losing side unless I have zero chance of making any victory conditions or we have time to do something else. The only exception would be in a campaign where casualties mattered.

If I'm losing I usually still try to play it out and pull off a miracle. It has happened a few times and made for really good games. But once it gets ridiculous I would end it as its just a waste of time and no challenge.
