A much more interesting round. More novels I've read, enjoyed and respected than I had votes. In fact, I expect to change a vote or two later to move a close one to the next round when my first pick wouldn't make it.

Sadly, Heinlein's best work doesn't qualify for the poll. Next time Netflix wants to throw money at SF, they should consider his "Future History" as a TV series.

Yes, challenging round with some really tight choices for me. Oddly, some of my typical big names didn't make the cut, not because I didn't like those books or authors, but because there were others I liked more. Don't know that any of these will make my ultimate choice, or even my top five… but then, the votes of others are becoming relevant as to what those choices may be.

I had 5 picks, and they're all getting smoked by stuff I never read. 😄

Again a round where I had 10 easy choices – which made picking 5 a challenge

You know, several of mine are losing badly, but my 6th, 7th and 8th choices are also so far behind that vote-switching would be pointless.

Very surprised that "Flowers for Algernon" is being left in the dust.

Very surprised that "Flowers for Algernon" is being left in the dust.

Because the movie "Charlie" didn't have light sabers or giant sand worms.
I voted for it, though.

I think Flowers for Algernon is a fairly low-appeal novella. It's also a little too "After School Special" in theme and message. I appreciated it when I first read it, but now I see it as a bit too on-the-noise and contrived. Looking back I can't really see what the point of it was supposed to be. We feel bad for Charlie… but what did we learn from it? Honestly, not much. The sort of thing high school English teachers assign because it's short and maybe the jocks and cheerleaders will actually read it.

So initially I had considered it, but decided it just didn't have staying power for me as either enjoyable or thought-provoking on a long term level. I've read it, but I wouldn't read it again. (Or watch the film, either. Saw that too. Book is better, but not much.)
