I cannot see any side in Warhammer as being the good guy. x42 |

I cannot see any side in Warhammer as being the good guy. Since x42brown beat me to it … I cannot see any side in any war as being the good guy. I've always considered war to he the less ed up choice rather than the good one. Before you reply, mind this was posed by a guy who proudly in combat served his country, their NATO and UN commitments, would have against North Korea if they hadn't flinched during the staring contest in the summer of '98, and would proudly do so again, if they would let me. I have never made any pretentions that war isn't necessary in certain circumstances, but I also make none that it is a good (in any meaning of the word) idea. |

Also not a Warhammer player, but I never really gave it much thought when I did play. I suppose Skaven and Warriors of Chaos are "evil"? In 40k I played IG and Marines who from the fluff-perspective (being written from the Imperium's POV anyway) were good, but as other said, I'm not sure anyone is actually a good guy. In other games I play all sorts of things. |

No real preference in historical games but I must say that I have never – ever – played Chaos in either WH or 40K |

From a purely Warhammer point of view. I would think Lizardmen would be "Good Guys". If only in the sense that they are just trying to keep the world neat, tidy, and running by the books. Sort of the frustrated janitors of the Warhammer world. But broadly speaking I would be more likely to pick the "Good Guy" force. If that is not so clearly defined then the side whose moral ideology runs closer to my own. If that still doesn't help me in picking a side, well then I just go with the coolest looking uniforms/monsters/tanks/etc. |

Half to go other: Skaven and Lizards and Goblins aren't bad guys in WH if you ask them! |

I tend to play the "heroes" (such as they are) in most games but I do have a lot of love for the Skaven. |

Whatever side I play become the "good guys" (for that game), so that is my vote. |

I'm with Forager. I always play the good guys. Also I don't really think that the Space marines and imperial guard in 40K are the good guys. They represent a fascist, oppressive, racist and xenophobic regime. Chaos are the freedom fighters trying to overthrow that tyranny. |

I agree, Pictors! Chaos are the freedom loving fighters far all that is good and true! |

I prefer to be the good guys, err, good rats. |

Don't play fantasy games. |

With some exceptions, I prefer to play "Good guys," whoever they maybe. I don't understand why some folks say there are no good guys in 40k, much less in Warhammer Fantasy. In the latter, the Empire, Brettonia, the smaller human states (Kislev, Tilea, Araby, etc.) and the High Elves, Wood Elves, and Dwarves, are all pretty obviously good guys to me. Each is trying to maintain a civilized, ordered existence in the face of horrifying evil. And while they may fight each other some times, that does not mean they are evil, it's just similar to the tragedy of war between nations in real life. Even in 40K, to me, there is no question that the Imperium, the Eldar, and the Tau are good guys. They may not be "nice" guys, but compared to Chaos, Tyrannids, and the Orks, it's pretty obvious who you should root for. Yeah, the Imperium is brutal an oppressive, but what makes 40K truly dark and terrible is that the Imperium is right to be that oppressive, and has no other choice. And again, the Imperium, Eldar, and Tau are all trying to maintain a civilized existence in the face of evil, destructive threats. |

Hitler was trying to maintain a civilized existence in the face of evil destructive threats. According to him. Don't believe the Imperial propaganda. It sounds like you've bought into it pretty far. The Imperium is far more evil than any other force in the galaxy except the Necrons and there is a good chance that they are working for the Necrons anyway. Chaos is not evil. It is simply chaos, a creative, freedom-loving and expansive force in the galaxy, and beyond. Tyrannids aren't really evil either. They are just hungry. You wouldn't call a shark evil. You might be able to say the same thing about orks. However orks were created with a purpose and I think that purpose is to stop the Necrons as well. The Necrons, and their unwitting dupes in the Imperium, are the true threat to a civilized world. You talk about destructive forces, what about the hundreds of psykers that are sacrificed daily to the dead Emperor? What about the intolerance of even the slightest mutation? There is no question about who are the good guys, it certainly is not the "emperor" of man-kind and his murderous underlings. |

I will agree with you on the WHFB thing though. |
