Pan's is #2? Very confused why not #1. |

I would say because although it is a really superb film, it just happens during the SCW and For Whom the Bell Tolls is an excellent film ABOUT the SCW. I would also rate them 1 and 2 in the order they are in now. |

Pan's Labyrinth (aka El laberinto del fauno – Labyrinth of the Faun – in Spain) is set in 1944, five years after the end of the SCW so is stretching it a lot, great film though it is. There was still guerilla activity against the Franco government right up to the 1960s. |

Agreed. Pan's is a great film. It's not really about the SCW. |

Thanks Scorpio. And as for "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" what the hell is that doing on there? Hardly any link with the SCW except it was written by Hemingway who also happened to a write a SCW novel called For Whom the Bell Tolls… Missed the first poll round or I might have voted for "Libertarias" – a Spanish film (what a novelty!) YouTube link about the conflicts within conflicts during the war but in this shortlist it had to be Ken Loach's brilliant "Land and Freedom" for me. |
