No. The polls already have too many options. |

I'll think you'll find it's more complicated than that, John. |

I think you'll find it's more complicated than that. (GP … what are you up to?) About 6'3". |

Polls have too many options because there is one "yes' option and 6 different "no" options. I think the "other" section covers what the OP is asking for. |

"Other" and a suitable comment should be sufficient. |

There are already too many options. If it's a YES or NO question than there should be only 3 choices, YES, NO, or OTHER. OTHER includes NO OPINION, NOT MY GENRE, NOT MY CUP OF TEA, etc. Combine all the non-answers into one category. |

+1 to John and 79th – reduce No options if this is added |

I think there should be more "No"-type options. That way we can really drill down into the negative feeling that the poll has produced. There would be the added benefit of further diluting the "No" response, thereby ensuring that "Yes" always wins. |

'other' is generally a positive (ish) answer by someone who, for example, didn't put their favourite tank or whatever on the original discussion. Not my genre/Cup of tea shouldn't really be seen together. No opinion/none of these should really be split. It really is more complicated than you'd expect… |

only if you remove some of the snarky options already here |

Now let me make it more complicated. Options should depend on the poll. If it's basically a yes/no, then we need one yes, one no, an expression of disinterest and an "other" for people who think a simple yes/no won't cover the subject. If it's a "best of" or "favorite" we only need the options and the expression of disinterest. But these really need to be reviewed by someone who knows the subject. As an example, we get into literary stuff where the editors can't reasonably be expected to know the difference between a novel, a short story and a short story collection, and it plays hob with the poll. (Yes, it would help if the people responding to the initial query would get it right, but what are the odds of that?) If the poll involves numbers--how many years? How many periods? or anything along those lines, we need the options, the expression of disinterest and something along the lines of "other" or "more complicated." But someone who understands statistics should possibly help set up the poll and certainly be involved in interpreting the results. Maybe we should have a poll about this? |
