If it doesn't help me understand and play the game, the artwork is just there to raise the price of the rules.

OK, sometimes it's there to sell lead. I thought Rogue Stars was especially egregious. But it still isn't doing me any good.

How about none?
Ive seen, in more than one AWI rulebook, plates if Napoleonic Dragoons fencing. I would rather see a half page of blank space than something totally inaccurate included simply because it's in the public domain.
Frankly, I find it insulting.

Good luck selling large numbers of a rule set without decent art work and illustrations.

Black and white illustrations of rules take on movement, formations and the like. Lots of charts.
