I voted that she's a real dinosaur. Because, why not? It's not hurting anyone to "believe" that, and besides, it's fun. I bet you pounds to donuts that someone, somewhere, has run games based on Nessie. I'm not about to say that it's non-historical! |

A lot of these options are not mutually exclusive. It may be the case, frex, that some sightings are otters, some logs, some hallucinations, and some aliens |

tis true, All of the Above would have been a valid choice. Pleiosaur-ish for me! Although, 3 otters in a Nessie suit do have some fun gaming possibilities too… |

I'd have to agree. No reason whatever to believe that all Nessie sighting were of the same thing. Same is true of flying saucers, of course. Anyone remember the old McMillan & Wife episode in which it turns out Clan McMillan brings out a mechanical aquatic monster on foggy nights to keep the tourist trade healthy? I think I remember something similar from an old "New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" radio drama. But such a thing would not preclude a real creature of some sort, nor, as noted, would debris mistaken for an animal. miniMo, Take a look at James H. Schmitz' The Demon Breed some day--big mutant sea otters with greater intellilgence, opposable thumbs--and a sense of humor. I wouldn't put the whole thing past one of them. |

My wife and I drove the length of Loch Ness on our Grand Tour of Great Britain. After seeing it I think something could be there and also that people could believe something was there. It had a powerful air of magic and menace. My favorite explanation was in a movie from the 70s or 80s. Mycroft Holmes (Christopher Lee) was protecting a secret submarine project under the castle. The other three leads were outstanding as well but I can't remember their names or the name of the film. |

That would have been Billy Wilder's original, if flawed, "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes." The project had started out to be either a limited TV series (for Auntie Beeb?), or even a "franchise" of at least four separate films, but wound up being four separate stories all strung together, with the last being set at Loch Ness. And one of the stories has Holmes evidently admitting he's GAY! Actually, quite a good film, if entertainment is goal, and especially if Victorian Britain and the brain child of Conan Doyle is your cup of… okay, TEA. I definitely recommend it! TVAG |

I think calling Bessie "it" is rather disrespectful. Her pronouns are "she her". |

The thing with Loch Ness is that it is very, very deep. It contains a greater volume of water than all the other rivers, lakes, lochs, ponds, streams etc in Britain put together… |

When I was younger, I believed it was possible that there was something down there. Nowadays I just don't think it's likely. |
