It's been quite some time since I was there, but as I recall it had a very good collection. |

"None/No Opinion" because I've never been there. Jim |

Never been there and have no inclination to go to the Moslem countries. |

I'd be curious to know what percentage of TMPers have ever seen it. My guess would be that fewer have seen it than will rate it in the poll. |

Other – never visited. Would like to. |
ochoin | 18 Apr 2020 4:00 p.m. PST |
I believe it's been renovated quite recently but when I was last there the sometimes poor displays where simply overawed by the quality & quantity of the exhibits. Certainly worth seeing. The BM, the State Museum in St Petersburg and the Acropolis museum are also all up there in terms of 'must sees'. Every time I go to London (typically 1-2 times a year) I escape to the BM for a day. |

Does watching the Brandon Frasier Mummy movie count as a visit? |
| Asterix | 19 Apr 2020 7:56 a.m. PST |
Never been there and not likely to. The British Museum satisfies my need to see Middle Eastern antiquities . |
robert piepenbrink | 19 Apr 2020 4:27 p.m. PST |
No, etotheipi, of course it doesn't. What sort of cheap web site do you think Bill runs here? You have to watch the first two Bendan Frasier Mummy movies. AND Raiders of the Lost Ark AND read four Elizabeth Peters novels--Crocodile on the Sandbank, Curse of the Pharaohs, The Mummy Case and Night Train to Memphis. |

Other – never been there so can't rate it, although I would at some time in the far distant future like to |
ochoin | 20 Apr 2020 5:29 a.m. PST |
@ Frederick, perhaps not the safest place to travel to, but I'd put it on the list if I was you. Movies (& TV), as Robert Piepenbrink & etotheipi write, can be a sort of substitute for travel, but it is a bonus if you can see things in person. |
robert piepenbrink | 20 Apr 2020 10:17 a.m. PST |
Ochoin, are you sure? Having done DC and New York in person, for instance, I would strongly recommend movies for DC and old Marvel comics for New York--cheaper, safer and generally better looking. (Might supplement the Marvel comics with Episodes of Beauty and the Beast and the first Teenage Mutant Turtles movie.) That's not even considering the traffic. |

I have not had the chance to see the Smithsonian in DC but I am sure a movie would not do it justice. Nor would I expect it to be a good substitute for the Egyptian Museum. Rather a silly thing to suggest just because you don't like traffic, travel or want to spend money. I hope to see the BM once my wife retires but I doubt we will feel safe enough to travel to a Moslem country in the near future. I certainly would if it changed. |

Syrinx0, ochoin--I hate to be the one to break it to you, but etotheipi was kidding. You guys do tell jokes in the Faroes and the wilds of Cook County, don't you? |
ochoin | 24 Apr 2020 4:35 a.m. PST |
Self-mockery? Of course I know Americans (at least out of uniform) don't travel much. Just possibly, Old Bean, I was being a mite satiric? |
