The ones nearest me are too difficult to reach. I thought about it but confined to public transport they are not worth the effort for me.

I discovered that the new Temple University (where I worked) library had a maker space and I was just starting to use the 3d Printer there. Very happy with the price and the results. But then Covid hit and it was shut down for several years and then I retired and no longer had access to it. :(

I think what most of us in the hobby would be most interested are "fab labs", which seems to be what Bill is referring to. Where you pay a monthly fee for using 3D printers. Other types of Makers Spaces are operated out of colleges that emphasize taking classes and corporations which are used to benefit that corporation.

I have seen it spelled as one word "Makerspaces" and two words "Maker Spaces".

Yes, but other: I use one and have one.

I have decent woodworking tools (but no metalworking tools to speak of), plastic/resin casting, sculpting stuff, and a couple of hobby 3D printers. So I use a couple of different makerspaces locally to fill in the gaps. Basically like the auto hobby shop – I do what I can at home, and go out for the rest.

Yes, our public library has one- I don't make use of the sewing machines/overlockers, the t-short making facilities or the woodworking are so much, but the Filament and Resin Printers I use frequently. . . . I have become quite a fixture there, truth be told :)

Yes I support one here at work. About 100 feet away. Like Scott Washburn it is at a university.
