Donald Rumsfield is still alive, so should be removed from the poll. Aside from not being a scoundrel, but a dedicated patriot, of course.

Yeah, some of the usual suspects clearly got their claws into this poll.

Ponzi and Rosenberg deservedly top this one so far (though perhaps she could simply be labeled another ‘useful idiot' of Stalinism rather than a true scoundrel). Gotta vote for Teach, too, though in some ways he may not have been as bad as his press. (A pirate, yes, but a lot of his violent image may have been "for show." Convince the rubes you're unpredictable and possibly psychotic, and they'll hand over the goods at the cost of some smelly fuses stuck in your beard.)

Donald Rumsfield is still alive…

Sorry, didn't realize.

This poll does seem to have a political bias.

Politicians and scoundrels? What a shocker… grin

Asterix19 Jan 2019 3:11 p.m. PST

no Edward Kennedy?

Wasn't specifically nominated, though someone did say the entire Kennedy family! grin

When we get to the "T" s. This poll is over. All other scoundrels are trivial.

Well at least this section does.

Oh and Blackbeard was English and not an American.

No 'living' scoundrels (well, a few slipped through).

Oh and Blackbeard was English and not an American.

Read the poll question carefully. grin

I had to look up Carroll Hubbard – he was a congressman who was one of the worst offenders in Rubbergate (the House banking scandal) – link He did two years in jail for violating federal campaign finance laws.

If you want to know why Daniel Sickles got my vote, read the book "American Scoundrel." Well worth the effort. What a guy!

Well he really did screw up Longstreet's attack on the 2nd day.

Sure it also basically destroyed his Corps but Longstreet had to waste time and men in doing so.

Douglas MacArthur, one of the greatest American military leaders of the 20th Century is a scoundrel??? Decorated in WWI, brought West Point into the 20th Century as commandant, Chief of Staff, important part of American victory in the Pacific and maybe his greatest achievement, Supreme Commander Allied Powers and leader of the Allied Occupation of Japan. Was on the wrong side of the situation in Korea but how he can be labeled a scoundrel makes absolutely no sense.

Well, MacArthur did bug out of the Philippines, under orders. However, when he did so he took his family's luggage with him. Had he left it behind he could have brought outa couple of wounded troops with him.

He recommended every unit in the PI for presidential Unit Citations, except the 4th Marines. he said they had enough good PR on their own.

And there was the destruction of the 'Bonus Army'.

I find it Very hard to forgive MacArthur for what he did to the bonus Army. And his disrespect and actions against President Truman.
