Before we do this again--and we will--two suggestions:
1. One period/genre at a time. Even if they blur together for the person proposing the poll, they won't for the respondents.
2. Polls should be restricted to either period-specific PIECES--craters, zeppelin mooring towers, operating tables and the like--or period-specific SETTINGS like badlands, spaceports and alien cities.

Otherwise, we're going to go on spending days to discover that we all need hills and ridges. We know that.

agree with robert piepenbrink, also add that we should be looking for "quintessential" or "genre defining" things rather than "basic" things that would likely apply across multiple genres. Otherwise, all the answers to all such polls include "desert", "forest", and "the larch".

I believe this has already been brought up a few times in the discussion threads on these polls.
