As the years roll on I find wearing a magnifying glass over my reading glasses helps keep me at the 'pre-reading glasses' standard.

Work on a variety of subjects is a good one that I wouldn't have thought to come up with. It is a basic part of most art instruction. One of the best ways to gain a cognitive understanding of technique (in art, or anything else, for that matter) is to experience it in multiple conditions.

For me, I have come to the conclusion that if I like what I did then it is OK. I don't stress over getting "better" but will try some new things. Painting is relaxing for me & while I'll never win awards I am happy & they fight the same (crappily) for me as ant well painted troops I've commanded!
