" she left in a huff. Leaving in a huff was very popular back then. I did it too!" I'm assuming a huff is a Cold War era Russian automobile? I once left in a Hillman Imp but of course never actually arrived. |

As a kid I had to help push-start the Hillman Minx when it wouldn't start…which was fairly often, it weighed a tonne. The Ford Capri also needed regular push-starts, it was not noticeably lighter, even though I was several years older… |

We had a Mini for the school run, and it required a shove sometimes on cold frosty mornings. Bit risky with leather soled shoes. The solution, build some ramps in it's garage so the front end was high enough off the floor to be able to put a tray with a small electric heater underneath overnight. |

It's hard to believe that it was almost fifteen years ago that the suggestion was made for that board. Bring it back. |

Hey! Hey! People are talking about terrible cars of their youth here! |

"Nobody respects Tradition anymore!" Didn't British Leyland market a 'Tradition' in the 70s? Awful car. It's "check engine" light was the primary interior lighting. |

Of course we respect Tradition, John. Look what it's going for on eBay: auction |

Ah, the Huff! Favorite vehicle of people who think well of themselves, but don't actually have money. It took the place of the classic high-perch dudgeon (or just "high dudgeon") of the age of horse-drawn vehicles. Not a large vehicle. You almost never hear of more than a small number of people leaving at the same time in one. And, since people are seldom mentioned as arriving in a Huff, one is forced to conclude it was not reliable transportation. But in answer to your question, Ochoin, the Cold War era vehicle which exposed the flaws of central planning was actually the East German Trabant. The story is told of the man who entered a radio shop and said "I want a radio for my Trabant." The proprietor thought for a bit and said. "All right: that's a fair trade." Post-German reunification, owners who traded in a Trabant when buying a new car had to pay 500DM extra as a disposal fee. Of course, this was as nothing next to the Yugo, which broke up Yugoslavia as no one wanted their ethnicity to be associated with it. (And yes, during Clinton's balkan bombings, the USAF flattened the Yugo plant, so some good came of the war.) |

They sold nearly 142000 Yugos in the usa… …the Yugo, the car for those who look at the FIAT 128 and think "nah, it's a bit on the big side"

Don't recall a Tradition – not thinking of the Austin Allegro (Rust and all aggro more like!) ?
Should you prefer an uglier car, try the Allegro estate link |

"But in answer to your question, Ochoin" and "Don't recall a Tradition" I'm sorry I need to explain this, gentlemen, but it's c-o-m-e-d-y not a documentary on the history of the motor car.. |

I may or may not be funny but I'm taking credit for totally derailing this topic. I hope when Bill reports the results of this poll, it reads something like: 2% want a name reclaim 13% say leave it as is 78% will never buy a foreign car…again |

the Yugo, the car for those who look at the FIAT 128 and think "nah, it's a bit on the big side" Hey! One memorable day in the DC region, I caught rides coming and going from work in the same Cooper Mini. (This was "slug lines", where commuters pick up a second and third passenger to travel in the "high occupancy vehicle" lanes, and by sheer luck, I wound up in the back seat of the same Mini both ways.) But if we're talking real crimes against humanity, I once owned a Renault LeCar. |

Better known to the world as the wonderful Renault 5. Lovely looking car, quite successful in rally racing. |

My Sister bought a Yugo from a dealer (gas station) without telling anyone. It was fine until she couldn't find parts. She sold it for junk and bought a Ford Taurus. The base model, not the SHO, unfortunately. |

Ooh, I like that Allegro with the 1977 grill, gives it a nice butch flare! Much better than the wimpy 1978 styling: imcdb.org/v105741.html |

Oh, I don't hate the Allegro – at least it wasn't the Princess |
