Hmm. More accurate (to the best of my knowledge) novels than I was allowed to vote for. I ditched deCamp for being accurate but dull, and for a complete inability to comprehend different ways of looking at the world. He'll get the length of a sarissa right, but people either think exactly like good 1950's New York liberals or are some sort of religious fanatic. They're his only two categories. I read a lot of deCamp, but not much stays on the shelves. Turned out he didn't have much to say.

I did laugh at his mocking of Aristotle's gay lisp 🙄in "An Elephant for Aristotle".
And the ethnic mix of the crew did very much resemble a WW2 bomber movie or Marine squad.
If you like deCamp… you like him. If you don't, you don't.

The Arrows of Hercules reads like deCamp is a strong Union man in ancient Syracuse. And for some bigoted religious reason, he opposes burning babies alive as a sacrifice to Moloch! Can't imagine why. 🤷

And his Spartans speak Southern. A man with imagination would have his Athenians speaking with a New England accent.

Some better choices than the 1st round. At least I had read all five of my picks.

Okay, how can a novel with a dragon in it but in a poll for most historical accurate? I am confused.

Dragon if the Ishtar Gate was a frieze (?) in Babylon.
