I wonder why beach volleyball is so popular?? |

going by prices of tickets to attend events, figure skating is by far and away the most popular. For the short program it's 24x the price of the midlevel hockey games. My reason for choosing volleyball is that I have a personal attachment. It is one of the main sports I played, though it ruined my knees. Now I need both knees replaced after diving on the floor so many times. Playing beach volleyball on the sands of Ipanema was a fantastic time and a fond memory of life in my early 20s. |

Not really a partipant or a watcher, but they did give me a great moment in child-rearing. My son once told me that Eroll Flynn couldn't possibly be a credible action/adventure hero. After all, look at him next to Arnold & Co. I told him, "kid, those are body builders. If you want to see men fit for running, jumping and throwing things, look at pentatheletes." He saw the point. |

Sadly, there is little TV coverage of the majority of the sports. Maybe there is better coverage on premium sports channels, but I don't subscribe to any of those. I have very rarely watched any Olympic sports since the 1970's. Back then, the Olympics were epically popular in the USA, with loads of coverage -- mostly on ABC, in the States, as I remember it. I did watch the "Miracle on Ice" hockey game, live. That was an amazing experience. Watching the professional Soviet team's dismay at being defeated by the amateur American team, was priceless. I loved the Olympics in the 1970's, but now, I don't care much at all, sadly. Cheers! |

Not a big fan of professionals playing in the Olympics. I have absolutely no problem with that. The whole thing about "amateurs vs professional" dates back to Victorian Class prejudice. Rich playboys were the only "athletes" considered pure enough to compete. It was designed to keep the lower classes, like Irish, Italians, Slavs and ….. GASP! … Negroes (!!!😱!!!) from competing with rich aristocrats. Some would rather watch hungover "amateur" dilettantes clear 12' in a pole vault, than watch subsidized "professional" clear 20'. Yaaaas. >sniff< That would keep it pure. 🙄 Harrumph. |

My distaste for all things Olympic dates back to ABC coverage. All the "up close and personal" clips. Mary Decker was heavily publicized. She was almost anointed to win the 1500. All she had to do was show up. Then she tripped over Zola Budd, and suddenly Poor Little Mary Decker was threatening to sue Zola. Who, by the way, couldn't compete for South Africa, being, you know…. White. Since then, I've seen no real "heart warming" Olympic stories, with the possible exception of Women's Beach Volleyball. 🙄 (Strange, isn't it? How AI and predictive text immediately suggested "Volleyball" after I typed "Beach". ) |

Lost my little interest when we started letting our Professionals compete against the Commies' "amateurs." |

I prefer the winter games – more speed and action. Hockey, bobsleigh, luge, speed skating, downhill skiing, ski jumping, slalom, curling. OK, there's no speed in curling, but it is an engaging sport. |
